Before and after pix Toytec U.L.K. + question

Installed: Toytec Ultimate Lift Kit with Bilstein 5100 coil overs, Differential drop, Anti sway bar bracket relocation, Rear TSB 1.5" AAL, Rear Bilstein 5100 + shim kit. (Shims angled tall to short, back to front). Also installed Allpro Upper control arms. Still making considerations for wheels and tires maybe Pro Comp 7089 17x8 and 285 or 265 BFG AT/KO or maybe Maxxis Bighorn or ???.
The truck handles great, no drifting or pulling.
Two things:

1) I swear my air conditioning is not as cold as before the lift. Especially in the footwell.

2) What is that little shudder/vibration at 5 MPH when I'm accelerating????
Is this a result of the different angle of the cv joint??
The different angle of the Universal joint??

 

that is very common with the lift. You might want to check the degree on the shims you added. You may need to go higher or lower. Most guys here do swap their drive shaft for the Wood's driveshaft, one piece. Just do a search on the site and read up, it gets complicated. gud luck

Looks great! You'll love it! I'd go with the 285 BFGs you'll have to do a little trimming but it will look and perform so much better

I haven't experienced the shudder. I also have the carrier bearing shims. I can't credit them or discredit them as I installed them the day of the lift.

 

maybe your windshield is durty?

 

what degree are your shims? I got some I need to put on, they are 2* that was recommended (steel shims) , for my deaver 10 leaf pack

I'm 2WD and tried a carrier drop and it made the vibes worse.

 

After a bit of looking around I can see that it is a sloppy carrier bearing.
I do not want to have to buy a carrier bearing drop. Shims should be able to get rid of the slop.
I'm a little ticked that Toytec makes no mention of this common problem.
I will most likey get a Tom Woods driveshaft and the correct shims before I will buy drop kit from Toytec. As stated esrlier they should give it to me free so as to be inclusive of the "Ulitmate" lift kit.

 

If your AC was affected by your lift kit you've done something wrong.

Never did figure out the air conditioning. I think it was my imagination cause it doesn't seem weak anymore.
I took out the shims, (it did nothing) put em back in and never did figure out the shudder.
I searched and searched and its really a nebulous problem and fix. Other owners have the same model, same year same lift, and no shudder.
I just live with it. Anyhow here's the final pic in the before and after:

Oh yeah, and since the TW driveshaft costs more in shipping than the shaft itself I passed on that idea.

 

There's a write-up somewhere, might be Tundra Solutions or Toyota Nation about this. As I recall, a common first attempt is to loosen the carrier bearing bolts and let the drive shaft "re-align" itself, and then re-tighten. apparently this helps reduce some to all of the shudder, most that assoc w/ front to rear issues. Again as I recall, the bearing support will not hold any attempt to change the side to side alignment. Have not yet done this, so I'm just passing along what I've read. Two bolts and a minute of time, I figure it's worth a try, won't hurt anything.

 

I agree that Toytec should include the carrier bearing drop kit in their "ultimate lift kit." What I don't understand is why you would go so far as to buy a new driveshaft and shims to correct the problem, when the cb drop kit might fix it, and it's only $11.

FWIW, I had the 5 mph shudder when my truck was stock, and still have it with the ultimate lift kit and cb drop kit installed. Made no difference on my truck.

 

I have the Toytec ULK and had the take-off shudder you are talking about. All I had to do was install the Carrier Bearing drop and the shudder was gone.
