    In one day: about 1,100.

I've made my trip from South Carolina to Montana twice in the last year. It takes between 39-45 hours depending on the traffic in the big cities.

I drove from northern VA to Stanley, ID. Google maps says its a little over 2300 miles. I broke it up into 3 days of driving, but I only stopped for gas, food, and sleep. I feel like I could have made it in a shorter amount of time, but after the first day of driving, both my headlights mysteriously blew out. Couldn't drive early morning or late at night.

From the Sandia Mountains in NM to the good ole Annapolis. I think it was about 1,430 miles or so. I drove it straight 2 times. That was enough. First was in a Ford festiva, 2nd in a Chrysler Lebaron, and once in a Ram.
