    Guido-
Guido /ˈɡwd/ is a slang term for a lower-class or working-class urban Italian American. The guido stereotype is multi-faceted. Originally, it was used as a demeaning term for Italian Americans in general. More recently, it has come to refer to Italian Americans who conduct themselves in a thuggish, overtly macho manner.[1] The time period in which it obtained the latter meaning is not clear, but some sources date it to the 1970s or 1980s.

I hope you guys are right about this being available in 2015, my lease is up then.
Where I live diesel fuel is only 20-25 cents a gallon more than 87 octane. I have no doubt a 4 cyl TD would get close to 30mpg maybe better.
One of the guys I work with owns a Dodge 2500 w/ a Cummings 6cyl diesel, the thing weights over 6000 lbs by itself. He can't get passenger plates and has to register it as a commercial vehicle because of the weight.
    That beast gets 18mpg

I had a hilux surf (4runner) with a diesel in Afghanistan. It was a late 90s model with a 5 speed. At 60-65mph on hwy 1, I regularly got 34 mpg. Mixed highway, town, and offroad driving produced about 26-27 mpg. With mostly offroad/unimproved road driving, it dropped to 20-22...
Overall, the truck performed like a V6. So a 30% average increase in mileage for the same performance. If the EPA would remove their heads from their collective 4th point of contact, Id jump all over a diesel Tacoma.

My buddy has a 2003 cummins lifted 4" on 35 mud grapplers. He has an aftermarket dual fuel filter and gets 30 mpg on highway. I know bc I witnessed it. Hard to believe something that big gets good fuel mileage

I think base reg cab trucks with diesels that could squeeze out 30+ mpgs would be a hit with fleets. I think Toyota should offfer base 2.7 4cyl gas, 4.0 V6 and a turbo diesel four as the top choice.

I bet you guys were looking at the OHD (AKA lie o meter). Unless hand calculated, it's not accurate. I have owned a couple Dodge Cummins trucks and even though the 2003-2004 CTD get the best mileage for the common rail era of Cummins ISB. It does not get 30mpg, even a 12v Cummins gets low to mid 20's mpg on average.

I still hope someone in the midsize or 1/2 ton truck market come out with a diesel. A do miss it!

I'd rather breath. You are also from northern CA so you should know how bad the air quality is here in the winter. We don't need to make it worse with all these diesel smoke belchers running around. They are f'n obnoxious but that's the typical diesel owner. They don't give a f.

I agree with you i used to have a 24 valve vp44 mpg around 17-18 theres no way a common rail would get 30 mpgs it is impossible.

If you're concerned about emissions, you should be begging for a modern diesel. With the OLD 500 ppm sulfer standard prior to 2010, light truck diesels had similar patriculate emissions due to higher efficiency. Diesels always have, and always will, produce less C02.
With sulfer limited to 15 ppm now, particulate filters, 20-40% greater fuel efficiency and urea injection, a modern diesel is significantly cleaner than a comparable gas engine. Its not 1985 anymore, or even 2005. If you're really concerned about air quality from a fossil fuel moter, diesel is the way to go.

Well I keep hearing these claims that diesels are cleaner but I think I'll believe my own eyes when I see all that black smoke billowing out like some kind of steam locomotive and my lungs also tell me otherwise. My girlfriend is especially sensitive. She makes me close off the air vent when we are in traffic behind a diesel vehicle.

So give the "diesels are cleaner" a rest. To me it looks like you are blowing more smoke than a Dodge Cummings with a 6 inch exhaust pipe!

I'm not informed enough to speak to the emissions issue of a diesel...but, why would someone want one in a Tacoma? The annual fuel costs really are not going to be any better...how much torque do you need?...and lets face it, diesel vehicles are like transit busses when behing one.

At a time when cities are working to remove diesel power from busses and other vehicles...I can't think the emissions are a good thing. The smell sure isn't.

Diesel fuel is typically cleaner than gasoline fuel. All the black smoke people see is just soot

Im sure your girl is not smelling the emissions from a "new clean burning diesel"...maybe the older ones.
there are only a few of the clean burning diesel engines in the US right now & they are being used in the higher end passenger cars not our domestic trucks.

a new 2500/3500 Chevey Diesel will come with the diesel smell straight off the showroom floor.
The Mercedes with the BluTec diesel on the the other hand...
the only difference you'll notice or smell is when you are filling up your 'car' with diesel. Check it out...the emissions on the new technology far exceeds that of current domestic Diesel engines.

So unless your girl is a bloodhound...LOL

    Bloodhound jib aside.

We just had a brandy new Dodge 450/550 chassis (I forget) Diesel 4x4 in the shop to swap out the 500 gal tank/pump/meter from the old Ford F-450 chassis. We used to do a lot of that kinda work in the past, we haven't done anything like this in 7 years.
I can tell you in the past when we started up a diesel in the shop we'd have to open every window a door regardless of what the outside temp was. The new truck was so clean that I couldn't tell it was running . I'm to old to be spending my day on creepers anymore, so I was fabricating parts for the younger guys and avoiding the truck.

I did see it has a separate tank for a fuel additive, I don't have any clue what is was can anyone shed some light on it?

The additional tank is most likely a urea tank. The common trade name is adblue. A urea mixture is injected into the exhaust. It breaks down the NOx, reducing it to nitregon and oxygen. NOx emissions are zero.

If your that sensitive to the smoke you should be all over a diesel!!! Especially since you could pull a WVO mod on it and put out 0 emissions.
