    shipping will be like $100. rhino(Mitchell) had them and i asked what shipping was, it was $100. he is down closer to maryville than me. i’m going to get the kick outs to save my bed side and or tire/wheels. or $40 is worth it to me. than i will just ratel can the hell out of them, because later down the road i’m going to add filler plates. so powder coating would be pointless because i would have to grind some of it off.

    Sounds good I'll try that. I was welding on some old mowing blades off of our tractor.

    I'll try too. My problem is judging the distance from the metal and the tip of the gun. I end up having to cut the wire off every time and I think I pull back so far that I've probably got 2-3 inches of wire hanging off and I can't press down any farther after I get that wire. But yes I can always feel myself rushing through it. Any way to fix all of this? And we've got one of those auto dimming masks, freaking awesome! :D

    Thanks man! I'll definitely be working on my welds and I'll make sure I can get a solid weld before I do any for other people.

    I'll look at those, that's not too bad but if I can do it for $100 myself, ill definitely do that haha

    I agree, the mask is a must. And yes hes welding too fast also.

    I would take this day as a learning experience that u need gas. As long as ur using solid wire and no gas ur welds will always look shitty like that. U can get flux wire and run no gas but u that metal is too thick to use no gas. Also it looks like u didn't clean it very well. Next time make sure to clean the rust off pretty good. First get some gas. Then the next time u go at it I would also suggest welding the seem of a T like Levi suggested. I would weld that same metal, keep volts on the 4 setting and turn the wire speed down to about 40 and def take ur time. U should keep a visible puddle the whole time. Remember that its ok to build the weld too much but no ok to not weld it enough. But not bad for ur first try. ;)

    Thats some hard metal to learn to weld on!!

    And try resting ur elbow on something. I damn near have to do that because I shake too much. Just concentrate on being steady, not on finishing

    Haha yeah, didn't clean it at all. Just grabbed some metal we had, turned the machine on, and went at it haha. We'll have gas next time and I'll make sure i have clean metal for the skids. Thanks guys! I really enjoyed this but how do I tell the distance from the metal and the gun? I don't want to stick the tip to the metal and I don't want to end up too far from it. :confused:

    Look at this Weston. I did this earlier to give u an idea of what im talking about. This is on a T joint also. This is running the same welder u have, welding 1/4” with settings at 40/4 with gas and solid wire. This is using the cursive lower case e technique. Notice how it looks like pennies layed on top of eachother. So if u were about to weld this, u would start on the left side and work ur way right. The left side of each ” penny” is ur overlap so if u were thinking of it as a cursive e then ur very first puddle is the start of the e, u draw the e goin to the right, start ur loop up and coming back left then back down. The left side of that loop is ur next puddle which would be the left side of the next ” penny”. And then u just repeat that over and over. I hope this is all making sense. Look at the pic and read what I wrote at the same time and it might make sense! Lol

    Ill get a bigger pic tom, u cant see the detail really of what I was trying to tell u. But I stay 3/4” to 1” away and I can't tell u how fast to go u just have to judge it off of what the metal looks like while ur welding. Does that helmet have a light adjustment on it? U said u were having trouble seeing to judge ur distance. Try turning the adjustment on the side of the helmet all the way down. Its important to be able to see the metal and if u can see that u can probably see ur tip as well.

    How far do you keep the wire out? My grandfather kept it maybe a centimeter from where it exits the tip. It also was hard to work with when the wire got too long. And that's probably what that was, it was on 9 out of 12 setting I think? I'll turn it down, just don't want to damage my eyes. Of course thats probably better than me staring at this screen on TW all day haha

    Hahaha thats funny. And I just think ur wire speed was too high and also u were trying to penetrate rust so I doubt ur ground was solid which would explain why u were getting a wire build up. The more u do it the more u will be like ” oh ok, so when I do this, this happens” and then u can correct it. and u wont damage ur eyes with a helmet. The setting is really for if u r already in a light place or in a dark place, it just helps ur eyes adjust faster from my experince. Just try it and see if u can see better. Turn it down a few numbers and then in small increments till u find it where u like it

    yeah i think if he went down a size on the tubing they would look better. i kinda like them tho, it’s something different.
