Changed my plugs today in my 04, why did the driver side have Denso & passenger side have NGK dual electrodes? My truck has 120k on it, I figured changing them I would notice some sort of performance difference, nothing not a smoother idles not an extra 100 hp nothing :p

I had one foul on me at like 122,000, either plug should have been dual electrode as well as the new ones you put in. I put the NGK's in mine.

They run best on the factory dual electrode plugs. I think the replacements are all Denso's. I noticed smoother idle when I changed them but that's about it.

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
Yeah the 2 brands of plugs is a world wide web question and discussion topic but either one is fine, but the issue with the duel electrode plug could be serious. from everything I have read online about these trucks is that they prefer the standard plug with duel electrode, and if you change em out be careful with the gap on the plugs, don't take someones word for it.

    LOL!

Much speculation, including some half-baked BS ideas about one being something like half a heat range cooler/hotter than the other and being engineered to work that way because of the flow of coolant.

What makes the most sense is that Toyota has purchase agreements with both Denso and NGK and simply uses the left/right bank method to ensure predictable production line demand and use.

Hmm I got them for autozone, I also just checked the part number they are correct for my 04. Guess if it develops a misfire or ignition problem I will switch theme back to dual electrode Denso.

    Same here.

My '03 Tundra was the same way. Four Denso and four NGK.
I think there was a thread about it on Tundrasolutions.

Been running Denso in all of my Toyotas.

Take them out and put the correct ones in, Denso K16TR11 standard copper gap 0.043 . Can purchase at Advance Auto for $2.69 each . That truck was not designed for single electrode plugs . Don't let the nut behind the counter talk you into a single electrode, platinum, super duper nothing . That engine does it's best with the Denso standard copper double electrode plug and if you have a dealership do the work that's what they will install . Your truck had never had it's plugs changed , that combo is factory.

i looked in our spark plug cross reference book from ngk and it told me to use just your typical single electrode v power bkr5e-11 plug.
after seeing this post i got worried and called not one but two dealers, and they sayd that i would be fine. just a random note they are the same plug as used in briggs and stratton intec, powerbuilt, and els engines for like ever, less the 11 abbreviation. the 11 stands for the gap at factory option. the 11 is gapped at .044" from the factory. theoretically. but check it anyway.

oh! and i asked about the decal too, and the one dealer told me in a totally serious manner that i have to squint my eyes to understand. so maybe the opinion of that one dealer can be omitted.......

its the dual ele. that are tricky (and it was my first time with this type) you just have to be careful. the reg. type plug is all that i had been around my whole life, and I will admit i had bought a set at Wal-mart BEFORE i read the DIY here and took them back.

I'm thinking the "dealers" were Napa or Canadian Tire.
