Hi. I'm getting ready to turn 65 and I'm looking for a Medicare supplement. Which Medicare supplements do you recommend and why? How much do you pay per month for the supplement? Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Actually there are some pretty good plans.
I went with UnitedHealthcare (plan F) through AARP. Had to join AARP (for 1 yr.) to get into it but you don't have to keep up the AARP subscription. Cost: $124 mo. W/electronic withdrawal.
It's actually higher, but they give a 30% discount off the premium-which is added back on at 3% a yr., for 10 yrs.

My second choice would have been BC/BS (plan F) @ $164 mo.
Most of the people that I talked to have the AARP/UNH plan, and I really haven't heard of any problems with this perticular insurer.

These premiums may also vary by area ???
I'm turning 65 at the end of this mo., so this info is up to date and I'll be paying the first premium.
You should be getting all kinds of info shortly. Seems like everyone wants to make money off us "OLD GUYS"

Morning all: OK! here's what I found out about the medicare premium, and the IRA rollover.
Called SS at the national level, and then the local office.
They went back 2 yrs. for income (rollover wasn't on the 2010 taxes), so I pay the normal amount.
The rep. at the local office said that if I get a letter with a premium increase,(due to 2011&2012 income being way higher), I should get a rollover conformation, from the broker, stating it was strictlly a rollover and no money was taken out, and that they would take that into consideration and not charge the higher premium. (HAH! that remains to be seen!)
    As usual! :goingcrazy:

:yay:Just read an article that SS will increase by 1.7% next yr.
BUT; in the same article, it says that the increase will be partially or completely wiped out, due to the rise in medicare premiums. :der::laughing:!
Now, to me, that sounds like they're giving more, and then taking it right back!

Coming out of a different pocket than it goes back into, Carl. Unfortunately we are wearing the pants that this happens to.

We need a new crop of old farts in Congress. Not the same ones that have been there for 20 to 30 years. ;)
