I'd support this one as well. Smoking has no benifit to anyone, anywhere, ever. Im sick of getting a face full of smoke any time me and my family walk into stores

I have no problem with this. Now, while I'm not a smoker I would object if they tried to ban it in a single family home. But this situation where others who don't have a choice but to deal with it or move seems good.

and if you want to look at is as banning something in your home, consider heroin or cocaine one of those.

...who's to say this?... what if we replace "smoking" w/ "drinking", ...the type of tv shows you can watch, ..what you are allowed to set your thermostat to?... see how this games is played, ...let them invade your privacy and liberty and nothing is safe... what they can do to your neighbor, they can do to you...

You live in Ohio right? Why do you care? It's not the federal government imposing the law.... just another reason to avoid California.

I've personally seen smoking destroy peoples lives. Why force feed it to children in the same building? My grandfather is on full time oxygen thanks to cigarettes

Plus this is in CA are you surprised?

Cali is crazy. I don't disagree with this though. I see where the OP is coming from, "one thing leads to another" etc... but I doubt that will happen. This is a good step forward. Smoking kills and drives up healthcare costs. (coming from a smoker)

i care that it is a civil liberties issue for folks there, ..but also because these things sprout in kalifornia and then tend to spread to other places...

My biggest issue is that it comes off that smokers want to put their rights ahead of non-smokers. Its a smokers right to be able to smoke where they please but not my right to be in a smoke free environment and have to choose where I go to avoid someone else's habit? Sorry, but that's bullshit.

It may well be a civil liberties issue. With that in mind though, the question becomes whose liberties are more important -- smokers or non-smokers? Should a smoker's liberties trump those of a non-smoker? My personal opinion is an emphatic NO!

Add in the fact that civil law provides redress for private nuisance cases, I think it would be very difficult to argue that smokers could win this battle:

I'm glad California is taking this on.....good for them.
