    I have a 2012 4 DR,4Whl Dr;fuel milage is all over the board.Just completed a trip from Columbia Mo,to LIncoln NE.At the first fill up got 21.54;can live with that.second fill got 19.98,guess I can take that;third fill got 18.88'.I know that my milage is going to be less than I was use to on my old truck;22 all the time;but does anybody else have there milage jump around this much?The trip was driven at 65 mph,same weather,traffic etc.It is hard for me to understand,why it jumps 1 to 1 1/2 mph at a time;can understand .5 to.7 at a time.Is anybody else having the same results?Hoping for strong tail winds.

    I wouldn't complain about those numbers. If you do a quick search a lot of members here get 13-18 mpg avg with a stock truck. It all boils down to driving habits though, my first 6 tanks were over 20 mpg but after the lift & tires I get around 14-18 mpg.

    When traveling through different states, there are lots of factors such as terrain, climate (humidity, temperature, wind), the fuel blends, traffic, etc. You're in the range of what you can expect all the time. I usually get high 19's or low 20's.

    I drive between Oak Grove and Lincoln at least once per month to go home. I get anywhere from 17-20 depending on traffic, wind etc. I run 87 octane to avoid ethanol. I also have a 4cyl, so if you're a V6, I'm jealous.

    You're doing good to see that kinda mileage out of the 4.0

    I try really hard to find the non-ethanol fuel. It can result in a 10-15% increase in fuel economy... As for grade, I'll run 85 or 87. The EFI takes care of any pre-detonation issues.

    I have gotten anywhere from 18.1 to 22.3 mpg and it doesn't concern me much nor do I think it is all over the place.

    I think you should look at the overall average or long term trends and not focus on tank to tank variation. Over the course of 33 fill ups I am averaging 20.34 mpg with my V6.

    One thing I noticed that greatly affects my mileage is wind. My Tacoma, more than any other vehicle I have owned, does not like being driven into the wind or having a string cross wind.

    I live in Chicago and drive North/South to work. This morning, I was getting around 28mpg with a 10mph wind behind me doing 65mph. If I was driving into it, I would be getting around 18-19. Here was the wind map;

    OP consider yourself lucky, I only get 15 mpg. I blame it on the terrain here in WV because I'm light on the pedal.

    With a lift and half warn Duratracs I'm currently getting around 15 city and anywhere from 19-21 highway. Highway was less when the Duratracs were new. I use 89 gas.

    My 2010 4 banger gave me a nice surprise on its first fillup..22.5mpg all city. I came from a Chevy Colorado 4 cyl 4wd and would get 18 from that..15 in the cold months
