I find I can ride with Pearl Izumi gloves, a long sleeve jersey, knee length tights and shorts. Thicker socks. I have a Klim pullover that I sometimes wear too. And as long as I'm moving, I'm OK.

    Shut it

(for those that don't know, today is the anniversary of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake)

yeah i was thinking of using leggings, i have a few for snowboarding that i was thinking about using, i just feel like they would get really staticky(is that a word?) over riding shorts.
thats something else i need to get, long sleeve jersey, i have a 3/4 that i use for cooler days but definitely need an LS and some longer bibs.
ill have to see what specialized stuff the new shop around here has, hopefully they have some stuff in stock, i think i can get a discount too for being on the school cycling team

Layering helps a ton. If you wear a light poly undershirt, you can wear a regular long sleeve jersey on top. Same with knickers-you can add a layer on top to up the warmth.

Like Eddie said, it's better to be cold or cool when you start. You want to avoid sweating because that will only make you colder when the wind picks up or if you stop.

    Sounds sweet Eddie.
Yeah, cold weather: layer so u can peel off as needed. If wearing waterproof stuff make sure can unzip to vent heat and moisture. Once you get warm it's easy to maintain, just try to avoid excess sweating. Gay looking tights can be great for legs if its under 40F and thicker ones with a wind panel along the front for 20F and below.

Wait and get what you want. Otherwise, you might regret settling.

Get the thermals that go under the lycra leggings under the sweats............When it gets that cold I usually have thermals, leggings, bike shorts then baggys over all that. Thicker socks with plastic baggies over them in the shoes works wonders for warm toes. Also cheap plastic or rubber gloves under the bike gloves helps too if that cold.
