So I've been searching around and have some unanswered questions. I have a 2012 SR5 with the non JBL crap head unit. I'm leaning towards a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH but according to crutchfield, it won't fit.

Am I left with single din units?

    Thanks.

    How you like this HU?

I'll take everyone's word for it. Why would crutchfield say it doesn't fit? Seems like they would at say that it will fit if you buy the 2012 dash kit or something. Seems like I would need a dash kit either way with single or double.

I was able to get a Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH into my dash on my '13 TRD Off-Road. We had to cut a little bit of plastic at the bottom of the din cavity to be able to tuck all of the wires under the unit, but we didn't need to alter anything important / structural. I think it should fit.

They did not have new kit(12') thats why it says it does not fit. They should have them now. Call and ask they'll probably tell you they have kits now and it will fit.

What kit do you have? Looks really good.

Makes sense. Thanks for the help.

    Hey Mike,

I had my head unit installed by Sound Sensations in Marietta, GA. I sat in the back seat, held a flashlight, and kept them company, trying to learn as much as I could. I'm a mechanical engineer, not an electrical engineer ; I freely admit my ignorance on the subject and would rather know it was done right than save a little money. I made judgement calls when needed - which steering wheel controls to sacrifice for the voice control, when and how to cut the plastic in the dash to make it fit, etc. - they did the work.

That being said, we had to use a Lexus antenna adapter for the HD [and XM] antenna (I believe). I can say that I do get HD radio, but I haven't tried to connect to Sirius XM radio. After the install, they checked to make sure that every aspect of the head unit was functional, so I'm assuming that the XM radio worked. I'm not sure I know what you mean by the "factory bt".

I searched TW and came across this thread, perhaps it will help:

Hunter, thanks for the link. that helped answer some questions. i'll show the thread to the installers.

by bt, i meant. are you able to use the factory microphone or did you have to use a seperate pioneer one? Were you able to use the 3 talk/ hang up bt buttons on the steering wheel ? installer said with the 140 he might be able to program to use the steering wheel buttons to operate the hu.

    thanks again.

    Hey Mike,

We were able to use the factory microphone - it's still located above the rear-view mirror. As far as the steering wheel buttons, I left everything on the left side alone (volume control, seek, mode) and only changed the right side buttons. I sacrificed the "end call button" (right) to become the "active voice control" button. I still have the "answer call" button (left), which I felt was the most important button of the two - the other person can end the call.

I've been going crazy trying to find someone to insdtall a new stereo in the 2013 Tacoma Sport Double Cab. Everyone I talked to say, "the tru is too new. You can NOT install an aftermarket stereo in it, because O one make adapters yet." I bought the truck with the 6.1" touch screen, thinking I can get a nav and sat for much cheaper.. and I am missing my SAT radio. Thanks for all your posts on this. I'm going shopping this weekend!
