Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I used to like the idea of it, but now that I think of it, the towing capacity wouldn't be that much higher than it is now. So basically, if I want a diesel I will go look at a 3/4 ton Super Duty.

Is it legal to roll coal in an area occupied by only gasoline trucks? I hope they don't take this important civil liberty away from us.

Oh I agree with you, a hybrid Tacoma would be a nice option, but I never miss an opportunity to dis on a Prius.

Same here, I love the idea of the Prius, but the majority of asshats that drive them and the fact that they resemble a space shuttle turn me against them. I would much rather have a Camry hybrid.

I dont know if this the right thread but hear me out, what if toyota looked into what ford did with the EcoBoost Engine but instead use the EcoBoost theory with a 4 cylinder?..get same power as a V6 nd tap better gas mileage?

This will be my last Toyota unless they make the diesel Hilux or Tacoma available to the US market. As I understand it, it's not really an emissions thing so much as it relates to an obscure import tax applied to vehicles that fall within a certain size. Toyota's way around would be to bring some jobs to America and manufacture the Hilux or the diesel engines for the Tacoma here. Another solution would be to change the tax structure that favors both smaller cars and larger trucks. There is a huge lesson in bureaucracy out there for those willing to do the research on why we are denied the luxury of consuming less fuel for the miles we travel.

Oh, and I think if the other manufacturers go after this market it will force Toyota's hand to compete with them and bring on the diesel. I'd be first in line to get one from the dealership but until that day comes Toyota gets no more money from me.

As I understand it, it has a lot to do with emissions requirements.

I'm sure California is the source of all emission problems

De-fund the EPA and see what happens, in some ways EPA has brought a lot of good but it's gotten to the point you're seeing absurd amounts of money being tied up in emission controls and equipment/r&d per vehicle and you see that reflected in the price tag.

I wonder what the total emissions control system costs on a new 6.7 PSD?

DPF, cats, egrs, urea injection, associated electronics ??? how many thousands of dollars are being tacked on to the price tag of the truck?

    I did find this quote

"4. Expensive! The new emissions equipment has added 18,000 dollars to the cost of a Class 8 tractor (Navistar's number). You Ford truck is probably close to 5-7,000 dollars."

You tack on those kinds of numbers and bringing a toyota diesel over is even less likely.

someone should sue to get rid of CARB while we're at it, companies start making stuff carb compliant and 49 state people have to deal with extra cost

You're quoting the payload for the gasoline version of the Hilux. The diesel version has lower horsepower, torque, payload, and towing capacity.

Do you really think a competing manufacturer will have a diesel anytime soon? At least for the time being Ram and Ford have completely left the segment altogether. Closest anyone has been to having a diesel was Mahindra and that was never really that close. Plus that truck was a giant pile of shit.

    so...

what is the reason you would want a diesel Tacoma?

would it benifit you in some way...or would it just be a win for your economic & political position?

My apologies. I'm assuming the only reason for this is that a diesel engine is heavier. Just like the 4banger having more payload than the 6cyl in the Taco. A diesel Hilux still has more payload than a Taco
