This would be my ideal engine for the Taco. You know it fits in the engine bay, because the GX460 uses it. Given a choice I would stuff in a regular cab. :D

i thought they took the V8 option away to make the 4runner "more economical"? i would love the V8 as an option so that chevy guys can shove it up there colorado drivin asses but i still love my V6. most people who buy the tacoma dont really need the V8 option anyways its just another one of these "lookey what i got" kinda thing

4.6L V8 in the Taco with 7500 lb tow rating would be great. Not everyone wants a huge truck. A v6 can't match a v8 on torque.Peak ratings may be similar, but the v8 will peak lower and have a broader line.

It depends on the gas mileage. I just got rid of a 5.7 V8 because I was choking on fuel costs.

I bought my Tacoma because of it's gas mileage.

It would be nice but people might grossly overload the truck because it has a v8. The v6 is just fine, if you want a v8 get a tundra.

A Tacoma with the 4.7 V8 would be sweet.

More power, more torque, smoother-running than the V6, and better sound, without much of a fuel economy penalty.

One of the main reasons I love my truck is the load-hauling capability vs. its size, ease of maneuvering and parking...and it fits in my garage. A Tundra is too big to be a daily driver for me - doesn't handle as well as the Tacoma, hard to park, and wouldn't fit my garage.

My truck with the 4.7 engine would be a blast. If you've ever driven a vehicle that has that engine, you know what I mean - it's silky-smooth and very punchy. Sounds great, too.

I get between 19-21 MPG now, depending on how much freeway driving. I'd expect about 17-20 with the V8.

I would get it. If you look at it like this that extra 20+ hp and 40+ torque is going to cost you some money to add to the V6 WITHOUT supercharging it. I would also like it for the sound of the V8 and the smoothness.

    Yeah.
Keep in mind that we're talking a small difference in displacement, the V8 is only 17.5% larger.

My wife's 4Runner has the V8, and my old Tundra had it as well. It is a nice, smooth running motor. I don't think we need more power, but if the weight penalty isn't much, I would go with it simply for its smoothness.

Yess!! Those engines are beautiful! Not sure on reliability though. What about the 4.0 V8 the new M3 uses? Or the lexus 4.0 V8 from the SC400?

Toyota put the 4.7 V8 in a Tacoma and I'll buy today!
So much more potential with a V8.
I bet the 4.7 gas mileage would be very close to the 4.0's mileage.

I would be happy with an LS2/T56 swap.

Might as well be a 408 then with a TVS2300, this is America, bigger is Always better

But seriously, I miss those extra 2 cylinders

BMW makes very smooth running V8 engines. I had a 545i for a while. It would rev to 7 grand all day everyday without nearly a wince. But it makes all the power up top and are rev happy motors. The motor itself is very reliable. Its not going to spin a bearing or anything like that. Everything around the motor, well I don't know about that. Cooling systems in BMW's are absolute shit across the entire range of models. Never heard a BMW without some sort of cooling system work.

Either way, we don't need motors that rev to the moon all day. We need motors that pull stumps out of the ground. Off idle grunt. I don't see V8's living much longer in our world anyways.

With Ford marketing a twin-turbo V6 as a top end motor for the F150, you will see more and more small displacement turbo motors.

I want turbocharged motors. They can be tuned for any use. Low end power, high end power doesn't matter. Just change a housing and retune and you got power were you need it. They can make tons of torque where ever you want it.
