I hate to say it, but I agree with you. For whatever it was worth, the dealer bodyshop (and the other two bodyshops I got quotes from) all agree that the hood wasn't prepped correctly and that the tape should not have pulled paint like that.

The dealer so far is the cheapest quote, and the girl there has told me that she can work a little on the price.

I plan on getting a few more quotes and will do something soon.

    The law is pointless?...

    Facts are pointless?...

maybe the OP can clear it up. Was, or was there not a Monroney Sticker (window sticker) attached...or at least present, with the truck when is was purchased?

Be glad to clear this up.

THe Monroney Ticker was not attached to the truck, but it was inside on the passenger seat when I arrived.

    Update:

I had called the 800 at Toyota, discussed my concern that paint should last more than 5 years on a car. They told me they won't help. I asked to speak to a supervisor, he refused to honor my request. Wouldn't even give me his sups name!

Anyway, 30 minutes later & getting very stern, I got a supervisor to call me back the next day (it was the best he could do).

Next day, basically the same thing happens. The sup refuses to pass me to her supervisor. She says there is nobody else for me to talk to. But she will have a toyota rep look at my truck and will call me back with the details.

Callback from her and she has the exeative number for me to call.

Now I'm talking to someone in Jim Lentz's office. They tell me that because I used an aftermarket product (blue painters tape), it wouldn't be covered even if I bought the truck yesterday. And she said because I'm ot trained to put tape on. Now they might not send a rep out after all. I will find out Wednesday.

Modern day Toyota quality and customer service, all they need to do is hold up just past the warranty period. There are lots of consumer groups you can contact. I'm learning all about this as Toyota's been giving me the run around on problems since I had 43 miles on my 2012.

    Keep pressing them.

Got the word from Lentz's office today.

They said they won't help me.

They said they took serveral factors into consideration and the Toyota rep denied wanting to look at my truck. I told her to call them back and have them look at it. She refused.

After a few minutes of this, I finally told her that I am getting ready to buy a new truck in a year or so and asked her "What brand truck shoud I buy next?"

She then immediately told me that she was sorry that she lost me as a customer. I told her that she had the power to help me but is refusing to do so. She said that she was ending the call at that time because there was nothing more to say.

I asked for he supervisor or Jim Lentz. She said that Mr Lentz doesn't interface with customers.

    After that, she hung up.

Looking forward to the day I by a Ford F150.

you tried man, but theres no point in pushing it now, they said no...

just have the hood re-sprayed. it wont be more than a few hundred bucks probably. maybe $300?? can be done quickly. heck you could even remove it yourself and bring it to the paint shop and have them respray it. you dont need anything blended or go crazy... these things happen.

as an aside, ive owned several fords all over 10 years old and have never had paint issues ;)

people reshoot hoods and bumpers all the time...

I got 7 quotes. $700 is the lowest, the highest was a grand.

I'd pull it off but I'm afraid it might pull the paint off!

Wow. It's amazing how crappy Toyota's product support is, I'm experiencing it too. Conversely, Nissan's been fantastic for my wife's car.

You could send them a copy of your next truck's bill or sale and bullet points of why.
