I was putting on the cai I bought from a TW member and all was well other than one vacuum hose fitting near the very beginning of the intake tube right near the throttle body. The port on the CAI is way too big for the stock vacuum hose. Am I missing a piece or what's going on? As you can see, the fitting on the intake is way too big!
    Thanks for the help guys!

You're missing the plastic piece off your factory air tube:

Well, when I took it off the oem air tube everything has to be there bc it had never been removed. So, what plastic piece is it? I dont think anything on my airtube is removable?

If you look at the picture on mine, the small hose in the back that's unconnected is all that was connected to the stock intake tube

if i remember from when i did this to my old tacoma, they do 2 sizes, one for your size hose and the other for the plastic piece. you may have to find some sort of adapter because the kit comes fitted for the smaller hose. for the fitting that is currently on your intake the original owner had to drill through to fit that rubber fitting. hope that helps?

Run down to your local hardware store and pick up some varying thickness PVC reducers and seal/stack them all together. Bam...custom fix.

    -or-

Now hear me out on this cause it's a radical idea.
Remove the K&N hot air intake and put in the factory cold air intake and gain instant low end torque!

Thanks man, the best help on here yet. I figured it out. It's a crank case vent resonator that starts on the 2001. 2000 and before, it was a straight plug in like in the last pic.

Yeah, its a easy fix i think. Just buy a crank case reservoir from a 2001-2004 and it will be a direct fit. Thanks!

It's only cold air... if it's cold outside [IMG]

btw... as the oem AB intake system sucks in dirt and dust into/thru the element, from the wheel well's intake...
...at least you'll find comfort in thinking it's cooler air

I like muh fipk... and to hell with all ya :tinfoilhat:

    * I still 'ave my oem AB w/DP...
mostly spends it's life in 'da garage...
but I take it out and install it on occasion.
tho' I close off that fender intake for reason

Stick your hand in your engine bay after the engine is warmed up...and then stick it in the fenderwell. Let me know how the temperatures stack up....regardless of the temperature outside. :brianr:

And if you like your intake, more power to you. Your truck, your mods.

One last note....there's a reason the K&N dyno sheets don't show anything until almost 3000 rpm ;)

    Try again sport.
Block temp is much higher as its surrounded by the exhaust manifold.

And for the record, I'm not trying to talk you out of it. Keep your intake. Like i said earlier...your truck, your mods.

And really dude...pop your hood after driving. Even if it is balls stuck to your leg hot as shit outside, when you pop that hood your face gets slammed with a heat wave from the UNDER HOOD temperature...not the ground.

Done talking about it...have fun with your truck man. ;)
