You might still want to take a good look at the motor mounts and associated areas. The motor will torque in the mounts, but excessive movement could be an indication that something is coming apart. Congrats on your success with the truck!

Cant wait for that 400k mark to be broken! Even though i have a v6 and not a 4 banger, i have confidence that my v6 could last just as long. This shows the true reliability of toyota!

This one is a V6. Not quite 400k, but on the right track...

You have 4.65x as many miles as I do and your truck is 13 years newer

which would mean you're averaging 56,428.5 miles a year, so when your truck is 20 years old like mine it will have roughly 1,128,571 miles on it :D keep on keepin on man haha hope to still see it on the road in 13 years!

I also wonder if we will still be following this thread in 10-11 years when you hit a million heh heh

Oo, subbing so I can keep an eye on this. I just finally sold my dad's '86 Toyota pickup (before they had names like "Tacoma") with only ~205k on it (lots of city driving and short commutes). A lot of mechanical parts had been replaced, but the engine and transmission were still running great.

Good to know the newer Toyotas are as reliable.

Mine is an '01 4 door 4wd with the V6 3.4L and she still rocks as hard as ever even at 309K miles. Nothing but average maintenance, too, and she goes off road pretty often and pulls a trailer almost every weekend. Damn good truck Toyota makes.

I saw that, awesome! Nice to have a couple people reppin the high mileage V6.

Hah Yeah I wasn't averaging as many the first couple years i had the truck. Im at 70 some thousand a year now. So I think its something like 7-8 years. I WILL get the truck to a million no matter what. Unless an accident totals it completely. Which I really hope doesn't happen. I would rather drive my 400k mile truck than have to replace it a lower mileage one. It would feel like starting all over again.

And why a 4 cylinders will last better than the v6? I thought the v6 will be better in durability because of their better torque and power

Any data to back that up?

I think 2nd gen Tacomas are just getting old enough to have high mileage vehicles. I have not heard of high mileage V6 Tacomas having their engines die. Anybody have examples?

More parts in a V6 therefore more parts to fail over time, it just a rule of odds basically. Plus like Ben said, more power generally means more stress, but not always. Just a matter of how you drive them.

Do you do your own transmission servicing? If not where do you take it I have been wanting to do mine or get it done but I am not sure what all it is going to take so I figure it would be easier to take it somewhere.
