i wish it was legal to carry a firearm in canada...you could probbaly get away with it if it was hidden. as long as you dont get into trouble. honestly most people here would back off if there was any hint of a firearm. would be nice to have the protection. wierdies everywhere.

To the OP, was there anything the guy may have spotted for a pick-pocket attempt? I saw a mention about the purse.

Reason I ask is someone took my airline coupon from my front pants pocket one time in the Atlanta airport restroom. He used what sounds like a asimilar technique, using the urinal right beside mine then started making all these odd movements swinging his arms around as if he were searching for something in his pockets then bent over as if getting something off the floor. Just enough to be distracting while I was otherwise occupied. I never knew he got it until approaching the check-in counter.

Fortunately it was just an e-ticket voucher bought by my employer and no way he could have redeemed it for cash or used it without ID. They processed me through the check in, no problem with my ID.

Okay, I'm willing to revive this thread for a bit. I don't think so, oldstick. We were wearing heavy coats, so it would have been tough to get at anything under those. There was my wife's purse, but I don't think he would have went for that with his car so close and us seeing him get out of it. Wish we would have gotten his plate number (just to know), but his car was backed into the parking space and this state has no front plate. Actually, didn't even think of it until in the store afterwards and he was gone by the time we left. Actually, we never saw him in the store, so he must have went out the exit almost immediately, just as we entered after looking at the lawn mowers for a short time. Like I said, it was an darn oddball situation, with the sheer oddness of it further compounding the confusion.

Your airport story sounds somewhat familiar. Once had a watch taken in the restroom of a train station in New York. Cleaning up during a long trip (with still more to go), sat it on the shelf above the sink, turned around to get some toilet paper to blow my nose, and turned back to see it gone with the door closing behind whoever took it. Guy must have been hiding in one of the toilets, grabbing the watch as he ran like mad out to door. No big deal. Watch was really cheap. In fact, bought another across the street from the station before my next train. Anyway, amazing how sneaky and quick some bad guys can be.

Actually four, but none since my last post a few moments ago. In reality, I haven't shot at anyone since the military many, many, years ago. In fact, hope I'll never have to.

I love hearing about these thugs getting there ass shot! Had another justifiable Castle Doctrine shooting today in San Antonio. Man protecting his family. Damn, I love that law.

On a sad note, an Austin PD officer lost his life last night when responding to a "drunk and disorderly" customer at a Wal-Mart; he was shot in the neck. He was acting weird and the cops were brought in and this 3-year veteran officer lost his life. Just like the OP's story, bad guys can move quickly and are unpredictable. Anyone can turn into a bad guy real fast--so watch your back!

Your simple movement towards your protection may very well have foiled something. Be thankful nothing came of it and that you had protection. I am glad you are still here.

That's certainly a possibility. Reaching for a firearm is a rather distinct movement. Glad to say nothing out of the ordinary in our lives in all the months since. Spent a good amount of time this summer looking for a new house, which meant lots of traveling around town. Finally found our dream home (or at least as close as we'll likely get to that), so that should soon end. Haven't heard of any incidents at this Lowes either. However, several gas stations in the area have been robbed. This is a fairly peaceful part of town (relatively low crime rates), but obviously no place is absolutely crime free.

I had a incident one time in a walmart parking lot, but i was actually standing at my truck with this person when it happened. I live in a small town where everybody knows everybody. You go to a store and you know everyone there unless they dont live in my town. Everyone knows everyone so well that people dont even roll windows up, lock doors, etc when running into a store. Ive even seen my buddies vehicle parked with the keys in it....which i think is a little much. But one day i was at walmart and i had just parked and stepped out of my taco(window down) and a guy who had also stepped out of his vehicle said "nice truck man". I immediately knew he was not from my town and i thanked him and we began talking about vehicles and mine specifically. He mentioned that he noticed that he liked how loud my taco was and like the sound of it and asked what kind of exhaust i had on it. I then told him it was straight piped and he bent down to look at the piping, and i also bent down. He then stood up and began looking over my truck, walking around it, etc. I then got a phone call and started talking(not walking away, but my attention was on my conversation). The man then proceeded to start peeping at my interior and then surprisingly he actually had the nerve to reach into my window and try to steal something with me standing there!(on the opposite side of my truck). I then reached for a pocket knife, dropped my phone and asked what he was doing and ran over towards him...he then ran off, hopped into his car, and i havent seen him since.

We have two Walmarts here. One has a good reputation, while the other is a virtual hotbed of problems. Of course, read that within the context of this town generally being a fairly low crime area overall. However, just like everywhere else, that appears to be changing. As I understand it, more crime today than just a decade or two ago. Still doubt it will ever be as bad as some of the places I've lived (lots of crazy stories to tell).
