I have dura-tracs and they are absolutely driving me nuts. The vibes and bouncing comes and goes at pretty much any speed. It is really making me wish i'd never f**ked with my tacoma. I drive my wife's car when doing any distance traveling except when pulling our camper.

i have had the duratracs for about a week, i have noticed they are not as good as my stock trd sport tires, can't remember what they were though, sorry, but i have noticed they are not as good in the rain.

I see you're in Canada, wait til you get some snow. I bet that assessment will change lol. They are great in the snow, whereas the stock were absolutely terrible. Personally I haven't had any issues in the rain myself in the 30,000 miles I've had them. Unless one just wants an on road tire, the Duratracs are infinitely better then the stock sport tires in every way.

Yes, one person is reason enough not to get them.[IMG]

If you sipe your duratracas they will last 5-10k miles longer AND you'll have much better traction in all weather. Not only that but after siping my 2nd set I found them to be riding soft at the end of their life instead of as crappy as the 1st unsiped set were.

Yeah and they look boring as shit(silent armor). My problem is the things I like about duratracs should matter LEAST, but since I'm shallow and materialistic I think I need sick looking rubber even though 95% of what I need tires for (ie daily drive paved commute) a damn HT 245 would be the best tire.
And you know what, my dumb ass will probably buy another set of Duratracs and waste time and money drivin to a bigger city for illegedlly better balancing in hope the next set will be f**cking round.?.? I've always thought GY tires sucked but these Duratracs just look so neat I can't help. If a mnfr would produce an aggressive AT tire with aggressive side lugs (TerraGrapplers are close) at a decent weight they'd hit a homer I think.

I ran BFG AT for years on my last Tacoma. Changed to DuraTrac with this truck. Noise isn't that much different. The BFG is a slightly smoother ride on road and will probably last longer for most. The DuraTrac is much better off road and on wet pavement. The look is much better in person than pics.

HT 285 would be the best tire for pavement. Wider contact patch means more grip in the corners.

For looks, get the Dick Cepek Crusher with dick-shaped tread lugs and skull-and-bones on the sidewall. :p Hey, there's siping!

I had the same debate OP, but I chose the Duratracs. They are AWESOME. I'm very pleased with my decision. They probably won't last as long as the bfg's, by a small margin. I decided, I'd rather have some BADASS looking tires, and hell- if I have to get a new set just a bit before I would with the others, then so-be-it. GY FTW :D

I have the BFG AT KO's they ride vary smooth and have vary little road noise. I have had them for about 1K miles but I am vary happy with the purchase. Also I think the BFG's are less expensive.

Yeah but I could care less about grip. As Whipper would say these are trucks not sportscars. 245 would be for max mpgs. I'm just having too much fun with this shit.

They do have sipes but I got more cut. Discount tire does the service for like 15-20$ a tire. Totally safe and really made the tire awesome

But siping is primarily for snow correct? Not too much of that where I am. BTW Razor, you sir have a badass rig.

Siping is for all weather traction but helps a lot in rain for sure and probably in snow also. I live in the south so I have little snow experience. It allows the tire to flex like fingers and grab for traction.

Going back a few posts about load ranges. If you get a 10 ply or E range be ready for your truck to feel real sluggish. At 55 pounds per tire my Duratracs kill my butt dyno readings... But, I really love having the 10 ply when I go rippn' across sage brush land! That stuff will shred a light range tire real quick depending how careful you pick your line. Also under heavy, braking or some driving conditions your tires will move on your rim, rendering your balance somewhat worthless. mark your rim and tire, drive for a while and see how tight your rim seat is, some rim tire combos are better than others.

Really you probably can't go horribly wrong with either one of these tires!

The more and more research I do, the more I find that there is about 9/10 extremely positive reviews, and 1 horrible for both. Hard to make a decision. But I will say it seems like the BFG's will last longer, perhaps cheaper, and are more for rain, snow, and some offroad. Duratracs do well in all these, but much better offroad, louder, and dont last as long. Since I'm not a huge offroad guy, Im leaning toward the BFG's right now.

Anyone here ever buy tires from Costco? Heard they have great prices. Curious about if also got them put on there.

I absolutely love my duratracs. Bought them on a recommendation from this site, and could not be happier. I drive up a steep hill coming home from work. In the snow, I laugh... I'm in 2WD and I can fly up this hill, and all the other trucks in 4WD are spinning, bouncing off the curb. Brilliant! Duratracs RULE!
