Sooooo, I just scored a Gentex Homelink/auto-dimming/compass/temp/maplight/amber lit rear view mirror so I'm not sure about going with the overhead console install in my regular cab. That leads to this thread. Would anyone with 2nd gen reg cab be interested in the gray overhead console with cubby for sunglasses, cubby for garage door opener & map lights? I have the metal mount that it mounts to the roof with that would need to be epoxied in place, involve cutting hole in headliner and running wires for the maplights. Just ran accross the perfect mirror that has all the things on it I was gonna do the overhead for plus a coupla more so I'm gonna pass on that project. I will add pics of console and mount later this evening................

    Info =

Make template from cardboard for hole needed in headliner thats fits the bottom of the console.

Take headliner down and see where to epoxy the mount to metal roof.

Measure where mount will be and estimate where hole needs to be in headliner.

    Use template to cut headliner.

    Epoxy mount to roof.

    Test fit console.

Trim hole to fit just right and find screw to secure console to mount.

Once fitted, run ground and pwr wire down to fuse panel or splice into dome light wiring.

Note: may need to check an access cab or double cab truck with console to see if headliner is same or sticks down farther than the one in the reg cab. If so, then a spacer trim ring of some sort may be necessary to accomodate the depth of the overhead console. The template for cutting hole in headliner will be handy for the inside hole of the filler spacer trim piece if needed. Never did the comparison or test on that aspect of this. Not seeing it as anything major though. Spacer could be made from wood, plastic, lexan, acrylic or whatever material desired. It may not be enough of a difference in the headliners between the reg cab and other cabs to even be necessary. Again, I never did the exact checking or measurements on that.

Gentex 341 Homelink/auto-dimming/compass/temp/maplight/amber display..........sunglasses will just have to ride in center cubby in front of shifter or in center console.

Will this fit an access cab? If so, how much? I would really like somewhere to put my garage door opener. Right now it in the cup holder:(

Ummm, yeah, it came out of one. My base model 05 access cab had this, you mean you have a 2nd gen access cab that doesn't have an overhead console or yours is the compass temp one? I'm not sure but I would think both type overhead consoles in 2nd gens would use same mounting brackets...........or are you asking if the gentex mirror above will fit an access cab? Sorry, confused. That mirror has homelink which will make it unecessary for me to carry my opener in the center console or need the overhead console.

I didn't think about that. Yeah, I have the temp and compass. I just realized that the trade off is no second compartment.

And that extra compartment is a handy one if you don't have a homelink mirror. It holds the garage door opener and has button to touch to work it
