    Hello all,

    I am looking for some help from someone who has done an install on a 1st gen 2004 Toyota Tacoma.

    I brought it to a local shop in Camrose and they were unable to figure out how to do the parking brake fail safe or in gear fail safe?

    Essentially, they were looking for 12v when the hand brake is activated from what they explained to me.

    Could someone provide me with a wiring diagram or description on how to install a starter on a standard 2004 Tacoma?

    Could someone who has done this before chime in with this? The shop I brought it to was unable to figure it out...

    How is it done on these trucks? Any help would be great I tried the search function but failed.

    Edit. I should say, they said that they could install a toggle switch that I could activate if I was to ever park it in gear, or they could just by-pass it if I would sign a waiver but I would personally like it to be 100% done correctly, I don't cut corners with my vehicles

    I haven't done one in a std. Because we won't. But if you are looking for 12 volts when you apply the ebrake it seems a simple relay activated by the ground side from the e brake switch should work.

    Just throwing that out for you.

    Hi. Thanks for the reply. I asked if they could use a relay (I'm an electritian by trade) an they said they couldn't find 12v power anywhere that is activated by the parking break. I asked if they could tie into the dash light and they said it wouldn't have enough power to activate a relay

    :eek::crazy::smack::der:

    U have got to be kidding. They can run direct battery with a fuse if they can't find a power source and then use the e brake switch as the relay close. There are a few direct battery wires around the junction box. They want to get 12 volts when the e brake is depressed. That's how you do it.

    I am sorry, I am not kidding. I don't pretend to know the wiring in vehicles lol unless you are being critical of them. Thank you for the reply either way, I will call them on monday and see what they say about this.

    Anyone else have anything to add? In return:

    Dirty pictures from this weekend!

    Its going in again tomorrow for the second attempt at an install. Does anyone else have any advice? I really do not want it to start in gear, as my parking brake has been frozen (Canada, am I right?) I have been mainly parking in gear and not using my parking brake at all. Thanks in advance, this whole situation makes me a little nervous to be completely honest.
