Has anyone mounted the Maggiolina or similar hard shell campers to the roof rack? I always see them mounted low in the bed, or on top of a bed rack, but Im trying to come up with a way to use one in conjunction with the softopper on a DCSB....

    ^ Grundletaint thanks!

I was thinking about something closer to this.... please forgive the bad perspective, its just photoshop.

Basically, I want to get a softopper / bestop/ canbac for daily usage, and then figure out how to mount the AutoHome Maggiolina on top.

Im trying to keep the bed fairly free for cargo access. I will frequently travel with motorcycles or mopeds in the bed, and hope to camp on top.

    Softopper has a weight-bearing rack...

    And so does Can-bac
    [IMG]

Anyone have experience with a similar situation? Anyone mounted one of the Maggiolina tents on just the roof of a DCSB truck?

    Just the basics
At one time I was considering something similar. A couple years ago there weren't as many rack options as there seems to be now. I went with a flippac and it has served me well. I want a Four Wheel Camper now but it will be a while til I have coin to get one. There are others who have gone with a rack mounted RTT of some sort then moved to a flippac and/or popup hard side.

I don't think motorcycles will fit under a rack but I could be wrong. Do you plan on taking the rack off with the bikes in the back?

This is an awesome looking rack.

I wanted to do this also because I loved my softopper. After trying the BR flat utility rack on my roof I ended up just removing the softopper and using the All pro bed rack. I am going to get a custom/marine canvas shop to make a cover that goes over the AP bed rack. Since I rarely retracted my softopper - I think my end result will get me what I want. A lower profile RTT mount with a bed area that is still covered and accessible form back and sides.

I was going to do custom build rack over my softopper but didn't like how high up the RTT would be.

Here's a shot from our camp spot at the north rim of the Grand Canyon. There's about a 1,000-foot drop from the edge where I"m parked. Nice view though!

Weather permitting I'll throw an air mattress in the bed. Otherwise it's a tent. The RTT's look cool but I can't really justify it for my use. We're usually in the desert southwest and try to avoid harsh weather. That being said we did have to cope with some lightning and hail on this trip. Weather drama at the Grand Canyon is pretty spectacular though.

My Turn I suppose. I picked up my new Tacoma, and after a small break in period (2,000Km) We loaded up and took off for Canada's East Coast.
By the time we drove from Ontario to NovaScotia, back into NewBrunswick and then crossed over into Maine USA and finally the trek home... I put on 5000Km in 13 Days

And having my new Taco to pull the trailer made the entire trip a breeze :)

Here's a few picture taken at our Stop at Fox Island Maine Nova Scotia. Camped out beside the Atlantic Ocean.

Got to love the Seafood :D This was a bowl of Snow Crab donated to me by my Wifes Aunt. No complaints here

    FoxIslandMaine3-NS.jpg
    404133_10151332194447782_74416633_n.jpg

Then we motored over to Cape Breton and took a spin around the Cabot Trail. Here is a photo from the Campground near Dingwall Nova Scotia.
    Dingwall NS.jpg

Of course, I couldn't escape the East Coast without having to grab a Lobster Pot for my Wife's garden. It sure put the G4 Elite cover to the test but it held up great. I just wish the wife could have picked a trap without the cement weights still attached

And then finally, A photo a little closer to home. It's Charleston lake Ontario about 3 weeks ago.

Well, I forgot to take pics until the tent was packed up and the bike was loaded back on the truck to leave.

btw, I left home with 12 miles on the truck to go ride in central FL. I couldn't wait.
