i have the toytec c/o and TC UCA on my truck with the BFG at 285/75/16. I had the truck in the tire shop around the same time i put my lift on it. The shop aired the tires up to like 50psi. now (as a result of the lift or the tires presure) my truck rides rough as it can be and i am due for new tires. ---- Wondering if i will notice any improvement over the BFG if i go with a lower load rated Nitto TG? anyone with experience?

    thanks

how many miles were on the tires? my old man runs the same tires at 48 psi and has 40k on them with plenty of tread left over. Also the tires would not stay at 50 because over time you loose psi and need to add.

Like 30k on the tires but I want new ones. Still have some tread left.

50 psi is WAY too much. Air down to 32 front, and 30 in the rear.

hey Chris just curious but why do you think that is too much? I think the sidewall says 65 (not 100%) so wouldn't lower to mid 40s be alright?

I have Nitto TG's that are "P" rated and the ride quality is excellent, I think the psi I have them at is around 32-34.
I think you will see better ride quality with a lower rated tire such as a P or C though I'm not sure what you have now, C or D possibly E?
Did you have your tires re-balanced and rotated?

I have 285/60/18 Nitto TGs, the regular ones. Thought the guy at the tire shop called the other ones E rated. Reg one was 189 & the E rated was 215 a piece. Maybe he said P tho...to much loud music FTL, lol. Anyway, love them, have had no ride quality, hydroplaning in storms on hwy or traction issues.

I'm running Nitto's D-Rated Terra Grappler and it's fine. about 35 psi. The only thing I notice on the D rated tire is that it's a lumpy ride if it's below freezing and the truck has sat all night. It smooths out as you ride, but it's there.

I like the way my truck rides with them.

Don't worry about the maximum psi spec on the tire, I wonder if that's there to release the tire manufacturer of liability if someone over inflates and busts it.....

35psi for road use - air down to 20 when off roading....

You cant go by whats on the side of the tire. Thats MAX psi for that tire with the rated load. Do a chaulk test to see what psi is the exact psi for your truck. I found mine to be 32 front 30 rear. Being as you are a double cab also, that would be a good place to start.

im just not happy with the look of the Nitto TG, I want to get some more aggressive looking tires. Prolly mud terrains of some sort.

Dont get E rated tires. Tacomas are to light and the ride is rough with such a high ply rating.

Toyo Mt's ride fine for me. They are 10 ply. Since they weigh alot it has reduced some of the brake feel but I am going to fix that soon.

okay so got my alignment done - they said it was off the charts bad. I knew it was jacked up since i did the C/O. i also aired down the 30/32psi and it rides MUCH better. I am thinking of waiting to get the new tires for another 5k miles or so. i went all out for mothers day - so a little tight on cash.
    thanks for the feedback all!

Want a cheap M/T tire? Definity Dakota M/T tire is a pretty decent tire for real cheap. I believe for 285/75 it's roughly 140 a tire, otherwise for that tire size you're gonna spend about 185 to 200 a tire.
Definity is made by cooper and is specifically a pepboys brand. They also have a buy 4 and get one tire free mail in rebate, so out the door w/ tax and install you'll be paying about 600+
Check it out! I almost bought them but wanted an A/T tire instead.

And if you want an A/T tire that looks a little more aggressive than the Nitto TG, check out Hankooks latest A/T tire; just came out this year and it's damn good. I've ran BFG A/T and two sets of Nitto TG's. This tire is better for sure, rides smoother and sticks better offroad.
