Driving Lights

Hello Guys,

I am on the search for the best driving lights for the buck.

I drive a lot on dirt roads in Baja Mexico and i would like some extra lightning.

I want to mount 2 lights on a light bar and i want to be able to see as far as possible.

Also there is sometimes traffic on those roads so i might be required to turn them on and off repeatedly.

Baja Designs and LightForce are probably the top two out there, check my gallery and there's 520 watts inside my grill and i mounted the switch were my right hands fingers fall if i am resting my arm on the center armrest.

I am on a budget so what are the best lights i can get with out spending a fortune?

$286 for some great halogens. If you are turning them on and off a lot and dont want to spend too much, then halogens seem to fit the bill over LEDs and HIDs

 

I have heard very good things about Hella Rallye 4000s and Lightforce. When/if I get around to it on this truck, I am going with the Hellas.

Awhile back, I had two Pro Comp 130 (8 inch) lights. At 130W each, they pull some power, but work very well. It's been probably 10 years since I bought them, but they were $35 each. That price does not include a wiring harness. The only problem with them was they started to rust a little after a couple of years. I believe they come in stainless steel also, I just got the black painted ones. Stainless shouldn't have that problem. I bet you could do a light bar, wiring harness, and two lights for 300 bucks.

 

I found a pair of Hellas Black Magic 1000's on craigslist for 120 bucks brand new with wire harness included. Is this a good deal? how do this light perform? Could i upgreade them to 100W bulbs later?

 

I don't have any experience with those. Hella used to have drawings on their website that showed light pattern and intensity of the different models. You might look and see if they still have that. I doubt 100W bulbs would be a problem as long as the wiring you use will support it. Many members here install larger bulbs or HID in the Hella 500s. BTW, the Hella 500s are a good supplement to the high beams, but you will not really gain any distance. Not a good choice for "seeing as far as possible".

 

Two of my lights a Hella 500's I rewired and upgraded to 130 watt bulbs (KC bulbs on Amazon), no modding to the light itself, just 14 ga instead of 16 ga wire. the two in the middle are some baja designs, probably their cheaper lights, did the same things as the hellas, ran everything to a switch on the center console. Lightbar from BAMF, did all the work myself, cost?

Can you post a pic with lights off how are they mounted I wanna do something like this did you relocate the Trans cooler I know you had to do horns thanks

 

This is with the big KC's in the outermost slots, they are deeper and heavier than the 500's that replaced them, that is the BAMF lightbar they are mounted on, which is IMO the single best option for mounting behind-the-grill lighting. Nothing else comes close to versatility and ease of installation. With the tranny cooler, I didn't relocate it inasmuch as I replaced the mounting bolts with longer ones to get the cooler to sit closer to the radiator. I didn't disconnect any of the feed lines. It really wasn't that hard to do as there is some flexibility in the feed lines to play with.

 

Check out automat central's 100W lights. They are a vendor here and often have deals on their lighting products. They seem to be well liked also, if you search for them, you'll find reviews by members.
