I bought my Tacoma with a compuSTAR Pro Superhet remote starter already installed. It worked like a champ for a few months and now it will crank but won't start. If I have the key in the ignition and use the remote it starts fine. I will call Compustar tomorrow (Monday) for some help, but thought I would check here first.

2".5 lift, HID head lamp and HID lights, color match tonneau cover and running board.
check the key bypass module connection with the remote start brain.

Self installed Remote Start, and dealer added Cruise Control, self installed 6 disc factory with dual 4-way 6 1/2 door speakers, power accoustic tweeters, and 6x9 rockford foskate prime in the back powered by a dual 400 watt amp.

Dont know if you got to the bottom of your problem with the remote starter. Tacoma's have a starter 1 and a starter 2 wire. Many remote starters only have 1 starter wire. I would check to see if there is a relay installed for the second starter wire. If you remove the lower dash you will see 4 connectors that go into what looks like a little block. If there isn't 1 then either your remote starter had 2 starter wires, or it was connected in-correctly. Both vehicle starter wires connected together to the one remote starter wire. If there is one there then maybe the relay went bad over time.
Another thing you could do is pull a diagram for that model of remot starter. A remote starter senses what is called a tach signal, and some remote starters will not work if they dont sense anything.
Sometimes the tach signal just needs to be reset. Googling the compustar model you have and trying to find a manual on the install will tell you how to reset your tach signal.
Also it has to have a good ground. You could check the ground.
If you have a chip or also called a G key I would think if that is off a place like best buy could upgrade the firm-ware for you at a cost.

One last think if you do find a relay with the lower dash off. Sit out in the truck. Press the start button, and will here the l relay click if it is working when you press the start button.
