The cardboard is very important. If the metal racks heat up and you set the headlight on them directly, if can leave melt marks and potentially ruin the headlight.

I pre-heated to 280, once up to temp, turn the oven off, lay in the cardboard and set the headlight in the oven with the lens facing up. Time it for 10 minutes, pull them out and tear them apart. If you want to pull the glue out, you can put the bottom portion of the light back in and then pick away at it while it's hot using a screw driver but it's a very tedious process.

Like John said, I used 3M Window Weld. You can pick it up at auto parts stores. It's a ribbon sealant that softens when it gets hot and seals up well.

Silicone around the perimeter can be used as a secondary measure but if you get the Window Weld in there, it's not required. Silicone would only be for insurance and can make a mess if you ever have to tear them apart again. Since this was my second time tearing this set of lights open, I'm very glad I didn't have silicone on them to deal with. Just my $0.02 but I'd focus on the main seal and forgo the silicone (that's what I did again this time).

With OEM lights that's definitely an option. If you're using aftermarket lights, there's not enough sealant there to begin with so you need to add something. I absolutely did not want to deal with leaks so I took all the old crap out and put new in.

I'm doing my projector fogs now. Heating at 200 for 10 mins. Gonna take them apart then use rustoleum for plastic and resell them. Yay.

Why Rustoleum? Krylon Fusion is awesome for plastics.

What did you get in their place? And how come you can bake fog lights but not headlights?!?!

Also, the fogs are smaller and might not take as much time. Try them at 5 or 6 minutes and I'll bet they'll be plenty hot enough to come apart. I wore Nitrile gloves for mine also. Helps keep you from burning your fingers while still giving you good grip. If you get that glue on the gloves, change them out. You don't want to spread that glue around, it sticks to everything and once it hardens, good luck getting if off. You don't want to get that crap on your lens especially.

Didn't have time for the headlights and I'm just running without them for now.

I got rustoleum cause that's what autozone had.

I got the bezels free. Now to sand and paint

On my second attempt to reseal my light I got some that stuff on my lens. I used something like a hair drying to soften it up and some WD40 to clean it up.

Alex, should have mentioned that it's a lot easier to do one at a time. By the time you get the first one opened, the second one might be cooled off. I'd take them out one at a time and work quickly!

To clean any over spray you best bet it brake fluid. (Don't use on a painted surface) but that crap will eat anything
