I'm a much bigger fan of the 1st gen 01-04 specifically, i don't think the 2nd gen look that bad but just prefer the 1st gen... so i bought and 03 and love looking at it everytime i walk up to it.

Yep great to look at, and more fun to drive IMHO. The only other truck I've driven that was as much or more fun to drive was my 89' 4Runner. I drive all american big trucks (ram quadcab, F150 and a Silverado decked out with 285's and a winch) for work and it's so nice to jump in my little taco after a shift.

I prefer neither the 1st Gen. nor the 2nd Gen.

I find them both extremely distasteful.

Then why are you on TW if you don't mind me asking? I mean hopefully you are joking. And these trucks have the highest re-sale value of any truck on the market. I have a 2nd Gen and i wouldn't own anything else. I absolutely love mine! But hey Opinions are like assholes, Everybody has one and all of them stink!

1st gen 2nd gen... blah blah blah...

i like the size of the 2nd gens, but i like how guiltless it feels to cut up a 1st gen

I had a regular cab 1999 4x4 and LOVED it. Just this past weekend, I bought a 2012 Pre-Runner Access cab and guess what.......I LOVE it. Hopefully there's nothing wrong with liking both. :)

In Alaska, Tacoma demand is so high, that I bought a new one because I couldn't find a used Tacoma around 20K. A lot of the newer-used models sell for just a few thousand less than new. 2nd gens hold their value greatly in AK.

It's market dependent though. In AK, it's cheaper to buy new for a late model Tacoma. And I mean cheaper long-term because you get finance rates lower with special rates and you KNOW how you take care of your truck.

Personally, I prefer first gens. The second gens are cool, I guess, but they're too clinical for me.

First gens are just you and the road. Small, maneuverable, simple, and very "truck-ish". Nothing too fancy, and simple interiors.

The Second gens are frankly too big. I drive an F350 crew cab with the 8 foot bed some times, and that's okay because it's a full size. The second gens look bloated to me.

I like feeling cocooned in my truck, and I think 01-04 Tacomas are the nicest looking trucks ever made.

2nd gens are still hella nice.

I will also say that I do not like new 4runners AT ALL.

I agree about the smaller and simple 1st generation Tacoma comment. Toyota should have kept the 1st generation style and continued selling it instead of stopping in 2004. I will never buy the 2nd generation truck and will probably have to pay around $13,000 to $16,000 for a used 2004 Toyota 4WD Tacoma.

The bigger 2nd Generation trucks should have been called another name like another version of the larger Tundra trucks.

I would have to argue your "nobody likes the new model style" The sales figures beg to differ. Again its all about preference.

And what was the purpose of bumping this thread?

I'm pretty sure that after 13 pages EVERY single opinion has been covered for both the 1st and 2nd generation Tacomas. Let this thread die already...

It took me awhile before I embraced the 2nd gen, I still have 1st gen & probably always will but plate bumpers on 2nd gens almost always look awesome, not so much with 1st gens but i've seen a couple that look great

I heard the Taco is a piece of junk and has nothing on the original Toyota truck.
