Rear leaf TSB isn't applicable to 2008's

Toyota corporate has told me that the TSB is only good for 2005-2007. She did some research into the TSB's and 2008. She says Toyota has redesigned the rear leaf springs so 2008 will not be included on the TSB. I will not be getting the rear leaf TSB, as my 2008 has appropriately designed rear leaf springs.

 

No I haven't loaded it up yet. She may be full of crap, but she ain't gonna pre approve me getting it done. She said that it has been redesigned so that the TSB isn't applicable to 2008's. I know my dealer won't do it either, they are assholes, we deal with them on our Highlander warranty issues. So I won't be getting the TSB done, it seems like I won't need it.

 

If anything else call toyota corp or try another dealer. I realize I should had done mine at 35,000 miles and keep the stock ones for a while until they worn out a bit and install it last second. Since oyu don't need it now you'll eventually need to change em mind as well do it around 30K =].

 

Toyota corp are the guys that I talked to, the thing is, I'm not sure I need the TSB. If they redesigned the rear leaf springs to address this issue then I don't necessarily want my rear end up any higher by adding another leaf spring. I like the stance as it is now. But if I do notice that it bottoms out under light loads then I will push the issue further. The truck handles to my liking right now.

 

What are our trucks rated to haul?. When I have my 400lb quad in the back I dont notice anything at all. But I did have about 4 large coolers filled and some other stuff back there and I definately felt that. But that was more like 700lbs. I have an 08

You got the old ones. They may have updated at some point in 08' to the 4 leaf, but 3 leafs is same as 05-07's. Toyota may blow smoke and wait to till us 05-07 are settled down before they announce they'll include 08's. Just like the 07 guys had to wait for the 05-06's first too.

You could look at a used truck like yours at dealership and point out that they are the same. Bitch about the lame ass capacity with the three leaf and maybe they;ll do it.

I've got a 08 and the part numbers are the ones listed in the TSB.
I loaded it up with 600 lbs and I was sagging bad already.
The dealer put in a few guys to make up to 1200 and said it was just touching and that was normal. No go on the TSB.
1 800 Toyota customer service gave me a a case number.
A second dealer wants it loaded up again to prove to them I've got a problem.

I'm sitting on the sidelines until I have a job where my truck is loaded up.

 

Well here is my deal. Went to my dealer today, complained of a few TSB's. They looked them all up, great with all except the leaf springs. Not sure if most people are having the problems with TRD trucks, but they had 6 people in the back of my truck and I still had about 3/4 inch before the bumpstop. The TSB has different part numbers for the leafs for TRD vs non TRD. They said if I wanted the 4 pack that goes to the non TRD they would do it. I have an 06 Sport and it doesnt seem to need it. They are going to install new manifolds for the ticking issue.

They gave me a loaner for the day. 08 Tundra 5.7 Limited TRD. Not sure I want my truck back now.

 

Hi wrxed96. Sounds like loading up guys in the box is the only way they have to test it unless you bring in a load.
Do you think Toyota would use the same part number if they made a change to it?
Yeah, the Tundra is a nice full size truck. Big bucks however.

 

the copy i have has the same spring part numbers for either truck.

48210–04570 & 48220–04210

Y'all are dealing with some squirrelly service departments...

 

OK after doing a little more research, I think my dealer just doesnt really want to do the work. Truck comes with 04550 leaf and they switch to 04570, regardless of model. Only difference is non-TRD gets the shocks I had to pay for. This may all be worthless, the Tundra is so much nicer, might just need a whole new truck.

Toyota gives a payload capacity, but that is Not truck bed capacity. Payload is the total load of everything in the cab and bed. I can virtually guarantee you that bed will not take anything near 1,400 lbs. I'll bet it's overwhelmed at 900 lbs (two sport bikes).

And Honda can give a figure of Ridgeline bed capacity - 1,100 lbs. Not that I want one of those, but, would be nice if Toyota would just spell things out.

 

I just checked the #'s on top of the springs and there are more symbols than what the TSB is showing.

The right rear leaf had (++ CHI 48210-04550 F-RH 311007) on it and the left rear leaf had (++ CHI 48220-04190 F-LH 021107) on it. This truck is a 1-08 manufacture date on a Gulf States truck for TX. These are the same #'s of the replaced springs with the addition of the extra symbols. I'm hoping ++ & F for thicker and firmer springs. Anybody have any feedback for the extra symbols.

I haven't towed a trailer with gear in the back to see if it is a issue yet. As stated in a earlier thread the dealer ordered the TSB parts and then declined to do the work until it is a offical TSB for the '08's. Having paid for the TRD and towing packages I expect it to ride more like a truck than a car to perform for what it was purchased for. I feel that my '99 with the TRD package was a way softer ride when compared to this truck.

 

Did you receive a TSB or a replacement as a TSB?

 

Like a few guys have said, the early '08s have the EXACT SAME LEAFS as the earlier years. I had mine done and my dealer gave me no problem. I think the factory rep he talked to mentioned something about fixing it mid production but the early trucks didn't get the fix. It's only a matter of time before they add the 08s to the list.

 

My service dept. just called out of the blue to set up the TSB on my '08. I guess they would rather have some Toyota warranty money than just having the springs set on a shelf. They had ordered the parts and then gotten back to me and said the '08 wasn't covered yet. That was last month. I'll let you all know about the ride, height, ect..
