you go to jail and let the justice system handle it...not the cop

it was a slap, not pulling a knife or gun on the guy

No because he was obstructing justice.

    Ask. Tell. Make.

Cop did everything by the book and he had a baton in his hand so the guy knew what he was getting if he continued down the path he was on. Not only did he continue he was fine with escalating it with striking an officer of the law. The LEO was in a crowd of people and the guy was combative. He had NO idea who in that crowd was helping him or meant to harm him so his ONLY mission was stopping the threat. He did that and not being there it's hard to say if the guy was fighting back up until the last strike.

Tough to pass judgement unless you're there. I've seen video from one angle where it looked like a patrolman gunned down a guy in cold blood. To watch it over and over you would think that particular LEO was the dirtiest cop you ever saw. Then, after making your judgement, you see a 2nd angle from another dash cam and the cop acted justly and saved probably numerous lives. Did this guy hit the guy too many times? I have no idea. I don't know how you can say he did based on the limited evidence here.

Bottom line: if a cop asks you to do something you have an obligation to comply and question later via formal complaint or civil suit if need be. That dude was CLEARLY on the wrong and I don't fault LEOs for acting in like manner.

I got bit by a crack head on a call a few years ago, tackled through a book shelf, and then I nicely "set" him nicely on a coffee table before cops got there and tazed him. I have no sympathy for people acting out against public servants.

given the situation could have escalated more and the guy could have had something else, action had to be taken, but my point is, no when to stop and know when you have won

Yeah I agree, but its hard to get that situation under control with all those people around. When he slaps the cop, it escalates the situation significantly cause it goes from "wow this guys a drunk asshole" to hitting a cop. which you just cant do.

I bet he did go to jail and the justice system did handle it. We as a society need to stop feeling sorry for the criminals who bring it on themselves. There are a few very very VERY rare instances where someone abuses their power but treating every LEO like a criminal and crying wolf every time one of them deploys a less lethal just makes it so when there is a REAL reason to complain it sounds just like all the rest of the bitching. I never go the mentality to cry 'police brutality' every time they see someone with a badge put hands on someone who deserves it.

Wear a badge on patrol for one year. Then come back and say things like this.

and watching it again, the cop had two dudes who were 300+ holding the guy down as he beat his face in...pretty sure he could have stopped about 8-9 hits to the face ago

Yeah we will leave it at we will never agree on this.

And until you work in the police/fire/ems field I guess it would be hard to understand. It's different when you know the other side of things.

So how does someone like you who has never actually had to 'win' a situation like this know when he's won? That's kind of my point. Until you've dealt with a grown man under the influence of a controlled substance you really have no idea what you're talking about.

Again, see my previous point. You have ZERO training to know what you are talking about. Did he let up relatively quickly once the belligerent idiot stopped fighting? Yep, he sure did. Now if it was to the point where those 300lb dudes or other responding officers had to rip him off the dude you may have something. He hit the guy until HE felt it was safe for everyone around him to stop hitting him. The drunk idiot got exactly what was coming to him. Not any more and not any less.
