exhaust question????

ok so im about to get my exhaust done and im thinkin of doin the flowmaster 40 series b/c it was suggested by one of the guys on the forum. i would like to do dual exhaust. my questions are: is there a better exhaust?, should i buy 2 of the flowmasters or do a y pipe?, or should i do straight pipes all the way back?

also i will be getting jba headers if that makes a difference. (unless there is a better brand for a reasonable price)

one flowmaster 40....single in/dual out. go with 2.5 inch pipe.....lose too much backpressure if you go with 3 inch(in my opinion only). there may be a "better" exhaust....but it depends solely on the sound you want!! some mufflers may offer a bit more performance than others, but i love the rumbly tone of the flow 40!!! sound is what i was after anyway!!

 

My advice to you is think about putting another muffler on there unless your going to run a tail pipe. I have an 01 V6 double cab and put a 40 series flow on it single in single out with a turn down on it and it rattles and vibrates and sounds like death (sounding like death is NOT good lol). Idk how a true dual exhaust setup with 2 mufflers would sound but if I had to make a guess I would say worse. I am still straddling the fence of what muffler to run I have a couple buddies that have a magnaflow on chevys with the 5.3 in them and the sound good. But im putting a tail pipe on my 40 series tomorrow ill let u know how it sounds.

 

it will definitely sound better with a tailpipe. turndowns give mufflers a tinny,raspy sound, imo!! you'll get the flow 40 growl back with the tailpipe.

im lookin more for performance. wat would yall say is the best muffler that makes the most power.

and i wasnt quite clear, so a 2.5" inlet with dual 2.5" outlets is sufficient. someone suggested 3 ". im a little new to the TACO (which btw i LOVE). i want to get as much power as possible out of that little v6 as possible. i do have a little money to play with bc i just sold one of my cars. im probably gonna buy the headers and intake this weekend along with exhaust so i can do it all at once. im just tryin to figure out what my best options are.

Get a Gibson Cat-Back system. Nice growl when you mash on it. Not an annoying sound at all. Summit Racing has em. Got one on my 04 V6 and love it. Flomasters sound great on V8's, but that's about all!

 

yay for opinions!!! i got a flowmaster 40 on my v6, and it sounds great.....as alot of us here have!! like i said....yay for opinions!

topflight...............if you are wanting straight performance....maybe check out a magnaflow mufler, as they are a straight thru design!!

 

Sorry Jack, But a fact is a fact. And the fact is, that a flowmaster on a 4 banger or V6 sounds like garbage.

 

hey "jack".....look up fact in the damn dictionary!!! what you have is purely opinion!!! just like what i have is my own opinion!! do you seriously think you could call up flowmaster sales/customer service reps, and you think that they will tell you its a fact that flowmaster sounds ,as you put it" like garbage on a 4 banger or v6"????? yeah...........................i didnt think so!!

 

I have never modded anything and wanting to install dual exhaust system on my truck. I was thinking of an H pipe ( thats what my buddy said would sound good) I want it to sound like a man's truck. Any suggestions? Again i am new at this and trying to learn as much as i can.

 

if you want it to sound like a mans truck put a diesel in it lol...but yeah 2.5" inlet and dual 2.25" or 2.5" tail pipes on a 40 series will get you a nice low tone... a 383 stroker and 3" flowmaster super 44's will give you a really low tone...trust me

 

Gibson Cat-Back system, or leave it alone.

 

my opinion, again, but gibson sounds way too ricey!! plenty of mufflers and exhausts out there that sound way better and function better than gibson!!

go flowmaster........you cant go wrong really, imo!!!

 

DONT put a flowmaster on it. I can promise you that it will not sound anything like what u want it too unless u want it to sounds like a rice rocket because mine sounded about 3 times louder then a car with a chinc pipe on it

I put my stock tail pipe back on it today and its not as loud but still doesnt sound great but its still loud!!

Bottom line when u put a muffler made for a v8 on a v6 or smaller its not going to sound as good

I know that flowmaster makes a series of mufflers for smaller engines might look into those. But as soon as i get some money im going to put a magnaflow on it because i think it will sound alot better then a flowmaster ever would

 

Im ganna put exhaust on my truck next, and I was wondering the difference in HP out put in the Magnaflow vs. the Gibson? (If any)

Out of these four, which would sound the biggest and baddest good Mpg and good hp gains. again I am new at this just looking for advice and help. How difficult is it to install these. Could i do it personally pretty easily or should i get them done professionally?
