I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma

Exactly, then mine broke and had to borrow one and it was the one pictured. I went right out and got the store to exchange the broken one and got the other one and used it on the 60K service. Way better!

This is a handy little tool I saw at Auto Zone today - shown here screwed onto the mouth of a Royal Purple gear oil bottle:
    553C2A61-D294-402C-9F2E-8BDE02FCFF30-579_edb18a90aa51d8e14e8bc669c1bc65c9e6722c78.jpg

    Even has an on/off mechanism.

$3.99 at Auto Zone, probably cheaper at Wal-Mart

Good find ! Worth a shot for $3.99. Wonder if you will be able to get the bottle high enough for the gravity feed into the tube and then diff, T case etc. ??

If I remember correctly, I think you can. I just used a length of tubing fitted over the pointy spout of the gear oil bottle, but I would have bought one of these had I known about it. Probably will next time I service the diff.

Front diff may be a little more difficult that the transfer and rear. I just did all of mine and the front I had to use a pump but the transfer and rear were no problem, squeezed it right outta the bottle

I have a little marine pump from HF. Put one in a gallon of fluid and the other in the diff an walk away with a drain pan under it. Come back in 10 min and it's done. No time fooling around with bottles in the cement driveways

If that ain't a bunch of BS!!! Not you.... The dealer. They're trying to make a few bucks on you!! Screw that!!

Sounds like you need to get 'pissed off' and ruffle some feathers until they fix it RIGHT!!! Sounds like their techs are a bunch of morons!!

If that doesn't work - tell them to go pound sand. You could change the oil yourself.

Very similar situation happened to me. I had to take my truck back to the Toyota dealership a couple of times. I also advise you to call Toyota Customer Svc. and let them know your situation. If you are like me you are probably really pssd off, however try to stay cool and stay professional when talking to the dealership. You also must stay persistent. The remedy to fix the problem is to replace the "differential carrier" (which is not the whole lsd differential). Otherwise, you have to take off the carrier and go through each gear and replace one by one. The best thing to do is to get the dealer to replace the carrier, which would come with all new gears, etc. The carrier is expensive ($1600.00 online and $2000.00 + at certain dealers). After 30,000 miles later, my lsd has had no problems ever since I got my carrier replaced, however now I change the fluid myself to make sure it's done right.

If you are within power train warranty you are covered. If you are out of warranty, you still have a case against that dealership. Of course it helps if you have something in writing. If anything is noted on your "RO" (work order) by the service dept. stating that they did not add "lsd fluid" that would definitely help your position when trying to get the dealership to pay for the labor and parts.

Sorry to hear this happened to you (It's a BIG HEADACHE trying to get them to own up!).

just picked up my truck from the dealership, they replaced the carrier assembly at a total cost of $ 2,730 lucky i have a extended warranty which made it easy because they got paid for their mistake and they even paid my $100 deductible.their head tech who looked like he was 20 years old tried to tell me they use synthetic fluid and it doesn't need the additive but when i first took it back that's what they did was to put in the additive, but by then it was to late the damage was done.on the new carrier assembly repair order that was the first item listed on the parts required to complete the job was lsd additive.

Good news nine2nine. In the future, I would recommend that you change the fluid yourself to make sure it has the right oil and additive added, it's really easy and cheaper than paying the dealer to do it. Unfortunately, I had to find out the hard way like you.
