just side runners looking for interior overhead console for temp gauge
I purchased a new 2009 tacoma with access cab, the cheaper version, but with 4 wheel drive. I am starting to dress it out but I need advise on if
#1 would a bull bar look good?
#2 In my interior, I would like to get the temperature gauge with the compass but I need to get the whole top console, is this possible and if so, HOW?
#3 I would like new wheels

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated

Also, can some direct me to anyone who can install the fog lights that go into the openings in the front of the truck? I did not get the truck with these features figuring I could get them cheaper aftermarket.

Please help as I love this truck

    thanks folks,
    Rich:confused:

I even wrote to Toyota wanting the overhead console like you do their respons was since the console is a factory install I cannot get one even though the wiring is all there and the temp. Probe.

    Here is what they said::crapstorm::crapstorm::crapstorm::crapstorm::crapstorm:

The overhead console with compass and temperature gauge for your 2009 Tacoma is only available as a factory-installed option at the time of manufacturing. We do not offer a retro-fit kit.

    A few bolts are different.
ebay or junk yard is the best bet for the console, I think you will need the temp sensor to run out front so make sure it comes with it.

However, if you go into the parts store and tell them you have a TRD, you can just order the part. However, it is very expensive. I want to say it is $600+

Plus, you could hunt the local junk yards for a TRD... might get lucky and they might not realize what it's worth. Or... you could just pickup something from autozone.

I thought I read here that the 09 model years overhead console display got their data from the sensor via the AC vs. the 05-08s that get it directly from the temp sensor?
If true, this means 09 owners need a 09 display?
FWIW, I velcro'd a small wireless accuweather inside/outside temp readout & a floating compass to my dash.
Together both cost less than $20 & work great.
Also if you have tan/taupe interior, they did not make the consoles in taupe 05-08.
Good luck with your search!

I like having the garage door opener cubby instead. It won't fail like the temp/compass feature seems to do on many people's trucks. Won't have to replace my door lock actuators or window motors either. :D

Just buy a new rear view mirror off ebay. You can get one with the
compass and temp built in. Mine came with the temp probe that is
put in front of the radiator. My 08 was prewired for the console but no
temp probe. An 09 probably has the rear camera hooked up but not
the display in the mirror. You could also add that feature in the
mirror. I'm assuming you don't have the display in the rear view
if you bought the stripped down model.

the overhead will not work if you dont already have a console in there (like one with the garage door opener instead of the temp gauge). It has to do with lack of wiring. HOWEVER you could just wire it yourself, and it would be difficult, but not impossible. The 09 is a different design for the overhead, so you would need to find an 09 overhead. the 05-08 would have a "--" reading instead of a tempature. ALSO the compass, you would need the compass sensor installed under the headliner. You dont have that right now, BUT all trucks with the sunglass/maplight/garage door opener HAVE the compass sensor in there. JUST not the tempature sensor.

For 09 you need an 09 console. What P.........s me off is even the probe is installed already and I dropped the overhead console and the wiring is there.
