lol, the bottom line in this tumbling dryer of "what should/shouldn't I buy" comments...there is no bottom line! It's a Windows/Mac argument. Pros/cons to each. IMHO, buy based foreseen use & abuse if you're on a strict budget. Otherwise, pick something in the "perceived" top 1/3rd and it's tough to go wrong.

    Exactly.

I see too many people scrape their pennies up to just afford their Colt, when they could have fit a PSA or Oly Arms in their budget and still bought a few hundred rounds of ammo to actually use it because some gun board told them that the only thing a rifle without a Colt rollmark on it is good for is hanging on the wall.

In the end its your money
You bought a Toyota that needs new rear springs pretty much immediately...Do you want an AR that needs the same to even remotely do what it is intended to do?

RevAdam has it right. 99% of this AR thread is about chest-thumping and wanting to be just like COD.

+1. No matter what you get you're going to eventually have issues. Get what you can afford and plan on making changes. Because no matter what you will you will work on it and make changes as well as repairs. That's just how mechanical things go. Most rifles these days will shoot the average shooter.

    stock, for now
I just bought a S&W M&P..Love the gun so far, havent shot it. I have added a scope(found a way around my front sight problem without raising the scope)..I dont need a $2,000 gun to impress the tools at the range with.

Gave it a good cleaning with ballistol.
I am learning it inside and out..I'll read the book, then go do it to the gun. Have already had the bolt/charging handle out, and seperated the upper from the lower via 2 pins.

Now, with that being said..Has anyone got a Troy battlerail they are willing to sell?

I need to loose the plastic junk on mine.

    So.....

I found two ARs that I am thinking about purchasing. I only have the money for one, but I these are the options I have narrowed to:

    Option #1: -- $2100

    LMT CQB MRP 16" piston

    Eotech 512 holographic sight
    Larue quick release
    Magpul UBR stock
    Surefire MB556k muzzle break
    Magpul AFG2
    2 PMags
    Torque wrench
    Less than 500 rounds.

    Option #2 -- $1900:

AR Pistol Build - eventually going SBR

    SAA Lower - Pistol registered
    Daniel Defense Lower parts kit
    ALG Mil Spec Trigger
    BAD Ambidextrous selector
    Magpul BAD lever
    Magpul MOE trigger guard
    Hogue (Mega branded) pistol grip
    Spikes Tactical pistol buffer kit
    Foam sleeve for buffer tube
    Cheek mount

    Adams upper
Daniel Defense 5.56 10.3" Cold hammer forged 1:7 twist barrel
Daniel Defense low profile gas block
Noveske KX3 flaming pig flash suppressor
Daniel Defense Chromed semi auto bolt carrier group
    LMT charging handle
Sampson/Rainier Arms 11" free float fore grip
    Magpul AFG2
GG&G back up iron NIGHT sights
    AIMPoint PRO

    10 rounds fired.

So with the limited funds I have (trust me, I WISH both were an option), which one would YOU get?

Neither. Both are priced at about twice what they are worth.

ETA: With your budget, start with this:

    http://www.hinterlandoutfitters.com...1-nato-stock-finish-flat-carbine-p-34186.html

Buy 5 Pmags and an aimpoint pro and the rear sight of your choice.

Spend the other $500 on ammo and learn the rifle.

If you have to ask "what AR do I need" You DO NOT need a piston gun. A lot of the stuff you've listed up there are very specific components that if you don't know what they do to your weapon system, you most likely not like them. Take the KX3 for example, it actually increases recoil due to it's forcing of gases forward, and isn't a flash hider AT ALL. (They do however look cool at night) It also will screw with the functioning of a piston rifle.

Figure out what you like, don't like, then change it. e.g. I would swap out the handguards and stock for Magpul MOE, but that's ME. Figure out what YOU like :)

    Good luck!

And again, PLEASE don't spend 2k on frankenrifles that you didn't spec out. (And I am really doubtful at the stated round counts. Maybe add a 0 to them....)

Seriously? Not that I don't believe you, but I thought with the relative newness of each and the additional items (and optics) they would be close.

dear jebus im starting to get the BUG again.

im probably gonna be getting me a 80% lower soon and making me another AR.

for the lower im probably gonna go with daniel defense lpk, timney trigger, pws 416 buffer tube with str stock and moe+ grip.

not sure what i want on the upper if i want a 20" barrel or a CHF 18" but definitely keep it DI

ill run irons probably from a.r.m.s.

maybe down the road go with some type of optic probably lightly magnified.

will have it free floated with a railed handguard(to add horsepower)

    thoughts?

Used rifle, Used rifle. Plus they started out WAY above MSRP. A complete Adams rifle is only $1000 for example.

Oh yea... if you really want to blow 2k on a rifle, go for this:

http://www.laruetactical.com/larue-tactical-14.5-predatobr™-556 (with pinned and welded compensator)

You would be the envy of ALL the cool kids :)

and a footnote, in Washington St. you can't have an SBR anyways.

Do you have the jigs for an 80% already? It affects my opinion.

i do not. ill be joining a build party.

ill be buying the 80% from a local company called ares armor who sells 80% lowers for people who wanna build their own ars(aks too i think) they also sell the jigs and there are build parties a few times a month where guys who dont have the tools can rent the tools to build the AR's themselves.

this will be my first 80% build.

ill also be looking into having it ceracoated after it is built.

In that case, looks like you have a good plan, Make sure you try a Timney before you buy one. They are extremely short and light triggers, and are not for everyone.

    got it.

i like the stock trigger on my current AR enough.

i wish it was a little more like my 1911. hense my desire of the timney trigger with 4lb pull.

ill try and track someone down in my area that has one and will let me try.

Just finished it a week ago. Fired 100 rounds through it the other day to make sure it worked and did a rough sighting in at 50 yards. I'll be going to the Tucson rifle club in a couple of weeks to get it dialed in more.

Also, got my lower in today. Gunsmith was impressed with it. I'm having fun just holding it:D

He asked if this was my first build and I told him it was my very first firearm. He then told me he would be glad to help if I needed anything and gave me a free magpul grip.
