I thought I would start a post and find out what the craziest things that your wife/husband or just significant other have done that pretty much just blown your mind. For instance I will start:

I am currently in Afghanistan and the other day I talked to my wife and she advised me that our 2012 Acura RDX needed service, that the light came on and said we needed a A16 service. Being the person I am and not really trusting the dealer to "ONLY" do the correct service I decided to look it up. A16 says: Oil change, rotate tires, and rear diff change. While I thought this was a bit much much for a car with only 14K on the clock. Since I was not home to do it at the house, I wanted to make sure it was taken care of properly I decided to have her take it down there and get it done.

Well I talked to her the next day and asked her if she had taken it down and completed the service call, and she then advised me that it had cost a little bit more than the projected 250.00  In fact she came home with a 2013 Acura RDX. WTF!!! In her defense I had always told her that if she wasn't happy with her car that she could get another one IF the interest was lower and a lower payment as well. She told me that the interest rate was lower, and she put 0 down and the payment was also indeed lower...by a whole $40 bucks a month...SMFH!!

LAST TIME I HAVE HER CHANGE THE OIL!!!

If I remember correctly, they ditched the turbo 4 for a v6. In my opinion this will be more reliable. She made a good decision.

You are correct, and I agree completely. The 3.5 is a much better motor.

Yes that is right, but still her 2012 RDX 2.0T only had 14K on it...and they said she was upside down a bit so she paid a bit more for the V6. I personally like the look of the V6 but I am not sure what the mileage will be like with it!!

So she financed more money at a lower payment amount...there's one more key element missing. How much longer is her loan for? Just because her payment is less and the interest rate is lower doesn't mean she's paying less interest.

That would be my worry...that she now has an 8 year car payment or something ridiculous like that. Hope she enjoys the new car.

The NA v6 should get as good or better mileage than the turbo 4. Our 2.0T Genesis coupe got worse mpg than my 2.7l lifted access cab Tacoma 5 speed pushing 285/60/18s around & it wasn't fast enough to make the tradeoff worthwhile. The only slight negative I could see is what others said about the loan being a yr or 2 longer. Still, it's a Honda SUV, they still want big bucks for a 2000 CRV with 200K on it. Fear not and enjoy the favors the wife now owes you...........and don't make any more loose statements like that concerning big financial purchases, lol. Hopefully the new RDX isn't pink either..........and THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!

That's pretty funny, because I say that all the time...pretty much a motto for me.

this...i fucking hate the new car salesman strategy.."so sir, how much do you want your car payment to be?"

they can essentially make it anything!! i'd be pissed. great car tho.

my wife is happy saving money. drives me crazy sometimes. but i let her save it all away. one day, i assume i will thank her.

we have no car payments..we save a "fake" payment, for the day we need a new ride. the first salesman that asks me how much i want my monthly payments to be..i am finding another one.

does your wife even know how much she paid for the car?

the "fake" payment is a fantastic idea. my wife and I are going to continue saving our car payments once these two are paid for and the other small debt is paid off. It's a great way to get ahead.

to answer the question of the OP..what is the craziest thing my wife pulled off on me?

i wanted a mazdaspeed3. new. i worked out a deal and said, i'll take it!! she chimed in..and we will be paying for it by check. WTF? the little wife had saved up the entire amount!!!! she wrote a check!!

i was blown away and had no clue we had that kinda money..liquid.

i am definately the fool in our relationship..i ended up sellling that MS3 5 months later and buying my current truck..used.

we still have no car payments..but the wife was pissed i left money on the table with the depreciation of the MS3. like i said..i'm the fool.

Well that is the thing. We had her old one down to around 37K...keep in mind it was just over a year old. Now she has a new 72 month loan and we owe around 48K. If I was home this probably never would have happened. She will most likely only keep it for the next two years tops anyway.

I do trust her though and she makes great money as a GS11 registered nurse. And I am an overseas contractor, so it is not like we can't handle it...I just thought it was a pretty poor decision.

Anyway the bottom line is she is happy and therefore had no issues when I just ordered my new system for the Taco!! :D

I'm not surprised. They start at $35k and the AWD one starts at $40k. It's an Acura after all.

Acura makes a nice vehicle...no doubt.

But owing 48K on an RDX only means someone needs some Dave Ramsey. :D
