Redline MT-90!

After reading all of the recomendations here, I put Redline MT-90 in my trans a couple of weeks ago. Wow- usually with small mods or expensive oil brands, etc, you can't really actually feel a difference, but with this stuff, I can. I wasn't having a problem shifting before, but now the shifts are as smooth cold as they are when the truck is up to temp. I can tell a difference too when the vehicle is just cruising on the highway, it just feels smoother.

The next week I changed the transfer case, and rear dif. Intended on getting Mobil1 75-90 for both, but two stores didnt have enough, so I actually went with Valvoline synthetic 75-90. I trust its a quality oil. Now that I've got everything changed in the driveline, the truck feels very very smooth.

Question: when i drained the transfer case and the dif, the oil smelled, but it wasn't brown or anything. I know they were in there for about 70K. Do gear oils get brown/black when they get worn out or not really?

 

The gear oil in my diffs smelled awful. I'm pretty sure that's normal. Mine didn't look that burned up but I also have no idea when it was last changed.

 

Gear oil smell regardless of what brand, synthetic or not. I recently changed my trans and x-case 4 days ago and I can still smell the oil slightly. I used redline as well.

If I recall, they turn to a cloudy dark grey color when dirty.

 

Gear oil is made from dinosaur anus, so it smells like ass.

 

How many quarts is required top off the transmission?

 

Where do you buy this juice? I haven't seen it in the parts stores.

I have an 04 jetta. When the old fluid would warm up my trans would grind slightly into 2nd and 3rd. Switched to MT-90 and it doesn't do it any more. Shifts a lot better and just feels better. It's GL-4 so it's rated for yellow metals (brass). I am also going to put it into my R150 in my Tacoma. It's all brand new innerds so I think the Redline will work great as well.

 

I think it was about 2.35 quarts for a manual trans. MT-90 GL-4 has eliminated all grinding in my transmission. The MT-90 GL5 is in all my other cases
