you shouldn;t have bt problems....if it is something unbearable and you are under warranty you shuold give ottonavi a call...they will take care of you...

also about the automatic dialing it may be your phone or the unit...

you can always try and do a hard reset

 

Placed my order last night and hope to have by the weekend. But I have a question about what to do with the iPod and USB wires.
- I have 3 aux ports above the cup holders and between the two cig lighters, as this forum would know.
-One of them is an "Aux" port with a speaker jack (I use for iPod) and the other 2 are blank. Is there a way of using these 2 empty aux ports? If so, is there an adapter that would fit into each port to connect the wires to?
- What have others done with the 2 wires?

I have an 06 so I didn't have those. Mine are in the glove box. I'm sure you can install them into it?

 

So, I got the Otto Navi with the XM satellite radio capability. Thanks to the kind and professional advice and links on this forum, and Otto Navi, for helping me make my decision and to do the initial install of the head unit. The Otto Navi exceeds my expectations in performance and aesthetics and highly recommend but here are some things to be ready to encounter:

1. Removing and replacing is as simple as stated. Do a search on YouTube for removal of stock head unit...extremely helpful.

2. It does take some study of the connections and how the dash connections adapted to the new head unit. As Otto Navi states they do not show how the connections connect so take your time and think about it.

3. Removing the clock/passenger air bag panel from the stock system. Be careful doing this because it's not clear cut on how to remove it from the stock face plate. I found one video that demonstrated but it wasn't very clear. There are a couple of plastic clips you need to locate on each side and they are hidden. No screws to remove.

4. Be sure to transfer the yellow tabs on the dash clips to the new unit.

5. I still don't have the XM Satellite connected. For me it's a nightmare. It's taking lots of study to figure this out. I'll make another post since it's a topic of it's own.

Just wanted to pass on my satisfaction and recommendation. Jose took my phone order and was very helpful and not afraid to put me on hold to find out an answer to my questions, if he didn't already know it.

 

I still don't have the XM satellite hooked up. Very confusing here for a novice not knowing where these connections go. I didn't realize it initially but there is an iPod connection on the XM harness so therefore if you connect the XM Satellite then the provided white iPod cable is no longer required. No explanation with the unit that you use one or the other but is only obvious because there is only one interface on the back of the HU (Head Unit).

Initial findings, see my attached photo of XM wiring harness provided with Otto Navi unit:

First, I wanted to get my iPod nano to work before proceeding with the complete XM install. Without the XM harness connected and ONLY using the provided white iPod cable - my iPod nano doesn't work (it was an assumption it would) but maybe with new XM unit it's now disabled??? Even tried another iPod and still no joy.

Then, using the XM harness, I plugged in the iPod connector (connection 4.) to the HU and (connection 1.) to my iPod nano and my nano shows it has a connection but is still inoperable. So, I believe, the power (for the XM harness, connection 5.) needs to be wired in for my nano to work.

Going further with the install of the XM satellite harness I discovered, after lots of searching, the connection to the satellite antenna is on the driver side under the parking brake. But, what I believe to be the Toyota connection to the satellite antenna, is a totally different interface as to what Otto Navi's connection is (possibly connection 2). The Toyota interface is a silver square connection with a center conductor similar to a coax connection. (Not sure if this is supposed to be connection 2. which is a totally different connector). Again, I assume, the silver square connection is the Toyota satty antenna connection.

(Connection 3.) Where in the heck is this white connector suppose to go???? Nothing on the HU that I can see where it would hook to. It looks like it has power connections in the connector so if there is a modular plug it goes to then would connection 5 be required????

(Connection 5.) If needed, where is the best place to hook the power wires and the best way of going abou tit?

Any thoughts or knowledge is greatly appreciated.

 

Okay, after more searching I guess satellite ready means only the antenna. Apparently sirius/xm receiver/tuner is required. But according to sirius/xm website the 2009 Tacoma is XM ready.

I've been researching getting this unit myself. Have not ordered it yet. You need the SCC1 tuner and interface for the OEM radio to work with XM/Sirius. Also if you want to use the factory antenna, you need the shark fin adapter cable to plug in under the parking brake. Sat ready means the HU can be used as the display and control.

 

I believe the SD card plugs into the front of the ottonavi unit under the false button labeled "Card"

 

Just ordered mine. - Sat ready version. Will update on my experience next week.

 

So I've had the satellite radio version installed for a few days now. Here's my experience so far:

1. It is a little slow to start up but quick response once booted up.
2. Bluetooth works great and I'm told reception is clear on the other end too. Music is interupted for incoming calls. Phonebook automatically syncs when paired with phone. Displays number of who is calling or if in your phonebook, displays the name too. Can switch between speaker and private call by disconnecting bluetooth pretty easily and quickly.
3. Sat radio and Ipod functions (both run through the sat radio interface) sometimes do not work. (Edit 11/21/12: Think I figured this one out. Checked all the connections and I think it was the inline fuse to the interface. It was not blown, just a bad connection. Just had to adjust it and the power indictor led came bad on on the interface.)
4. Ipod functions pretty much like ipod itself. Search by playlist, artist, album, genre. Have to scroll through lists though and sometimes choose song by accident.
5. Sat radio requires an additional purchase of sat radio tuner of your choice. I got the SCC1 for Sirius. Comes with magnetic antenna and cable. If you want to use the factory antenna (if your model year came with it) you can also purchase the shark fin adapter (
   $60 SFA12M Shark Fin Antenna Adapter, SFA12M
   SFA12M) cable. There will be a jack for it behind the driver side kick plate.
6. Steering wheel controls work. Radio is louder than stock HU and volume control from the steering wheel has a much quicker response time and rate of increase/decrease than the stock HU. Easily controllable by individual clicks rather than holding down button.
7. Seek now toggles through presets rather than searching for stations with reception. Maybe this is an option I can change but haven't figured that out yet. Making a list of questions for when I call Dan at Ottonavi.

Will add some links to other threads and some pictures later. Also will update as I find answers.

Couple things I'm still trying to see if I can adjust. Others, just a would be nice list:

Need help on settings:

1. night time display brightness - when headlights are on at during the day (like when its raining), display goes to night mode and can barely see it. (Edit: just figured this one out. You have to be in night mode (i.e. headlights on) to adjust brightness level for night mode. Switch headlights off and brightness adjustment screen switches to day time brightness adjustment.
2. Can remaining time to reach destination on navi be changed to a time of arrival.
3. Seek buttons are set to toggle between presets. Can this be changed to search for radio stations with reception like it was with factory radio?

Could be improved:

1. search function on ipod for entering text like searching through phonebook contacts. Scrolling through lists not ideal.
2. long delay after voice navigation before returning to music could be shortened
3. wish there was hard button for ipod and sat radio.
4. CARD false button cover won't stay in place.
5. button and knob backlights don't dim with rest of instrument panel like on factory radio.

 

if that is the case you have to locate the sirius/xm receiver/tuner...

however, i believe this was mentioned that the scc1 tuner would be needed

I purchased the JBL unit for my 06 tacoma. Installed it with little effort. Except I ran the usb cables thru the dash board trying to get them thru the tray on the side of the steering wheel and one got stuck. Can only get one out so far.
I decided to leave the GPS antenna right behind the radio itself inside the dashboard. No issues so far. Navigation works normal.
Just out of couriosity. does anybody know if apps can be added to the unit? I haven't figured that out.
I also noticed the volume goes up and down when in AM mode. Not sure why.

 

If it has HD Radio, the volume going up is when the signal degrades to the point that it switches over to analog.
My Kenwood does the same and it can be irritating.

Check the settings, you should be able to disable HD.

I realize this is an older thread, but I am confused as to whether this unit will work on a Tacoma with the Factory JBL stereo system (amp and speakers etc.) Can anyone clarify for me if this nav unit will work?

From searches on line, all of the ebay ads I see indicate that it will not work with "Premium sound systems..." I always assumed the JBL system meets the "premium sound system" criteria..

If this unit will not work, does anyone know of a similar factory like setup that will work with the JBL system?

The same unit works with both standard and JBL systems. There are two cables included in the box for you to choose on installation, one for standard system, one for JBL system.

was thinking about getting an ottonavi for a highlander, just seeing if you guys had had any major problems with these units of these last few years, thanks!

 

Mine won't read some CD's and the navigation only works 10% of the time. The other 90% of the time it will freeze the radio.

Other than that it works great, I rarely listen to CD's and use my iPhone for maps, they are annoyances for $1000 stereo but I much prefer the OEM look.
