would you really save that much moving in base housing? i lived in base housing at andrews when my BAH there was $1900. Done with that. housing maint is a bitch to deal with. military neighbors are allways in your business.

i bought a house out in midwest city, my morgage is 550 a month. even after my bills are paid i'm still under my BAH, and thats with E-4 with dependent. and when i pcs, i will at least come out with something....

we get 1432 a month in BAH, they will charge dependent rate BAH which is 954. that is almost 500 in savings right there. we pay roughly 250 a month in utilites, so thats 750, and we would save roughly 175 in gas, and 30 in renters insurance (provided with house). that is 955 total savings a month, which to me is way worth moving on base. we live in Moore right now, but cannot buy because I am in the Herd, which might be closing, but we still have at least another year and a half before that happens. We didn't want to live in midwest city or del city, so moore was the best option.

When I first started on the list I was at like 250 something ( that was in January of this year ) You'll see big drops when they complete areas of the base housing renovations.
Ex. I was 247 one day...two days later I was sitting at 173 because they had finished a new cu-desac. It also helped that I said I had two large breed dogs and would settle for a "renovated house" and not one of the new duplex styles. Ended up getting a call saying that they had finished up their 3 bed room list and were now offering vacant 3 bedrooms to people on the 2 bed room list.

So in short, it's pretty much wait your turn and hope you get lucky like I did. Or have a family member with a handicap and apply for handicap housing.

I don't save any money, in fact I lose out on roughly 100 dollars living on base but I feel that the sacrifice is worth it. Reason being is that I don't plan on staying at Tinker if I can help it.
He said he is in the Herd and it's about to close down, I'm a 3D152 and am supposed to be doing Computer Networking but I'm stuck working the AWACS Computer system so I'm trying to BOP or PCS somewhere else and living on base makes my life hassle free because I don't pay utilities besides internet. I get renter insurance included in the rent, along with property damage, my house has a storm shelter and the maintenance is free....may be shitty, but it's free.

Well folks, it's official. Two weeks ago, right after a broke up with my GF, I requested a transfer to Bureau HQ's in Lakewood (Denver) CO. Today I got the final approval, so it's a done deal. I'm going back to the "Mile High City".

Once I dumped Chrissy, I had nothing tying me up to this area; and though I didn't hated Tulsa, like I hated New Orleans; I wasn't all that thrilled about staying here any longer than 3-4 years.

ALawrence, looks like if you want me to repay you that beer, U are gonna have to drive up to the mountains, U up for it?

    Y'all got easy in OKC...

Man its tough. They chicks here are HOT and I enjoyed myself IMMENSELY ;), but I have a theory that they are dropped headfirst into the ground, at birth.

I thought I could/would stay here for 2-4 years, glad I only had to stay for 14 months when it was all said and done.

Not good at all. I seriously wasted the last 6 months. Hopefully the air force will let me have my old medic job back, we'll see

Anyone interested in buying my tractor? Its good for small yards, figured i'd let you guys have dibs before I put it on craigslist. Asking $600. Its an early 60's mowette mustang. All new paint, reproduction decals, 8hp engine. Just mowed my grass today with it
