Has anyone here done a retrofit in their headlamps? I am going to buy a lot but really have not the foggiest as to which kit to buy and how to go about doing it. I could really, really use some help with this!

I have a drop in kit already in there (yeah, I know.. I am that guy...) and for the third time I have blown the ballast and am sick of DDM's exchange and service policy. Not trying to wait another 6-8 weeks just for a single ballast.

I have been looking at some kits on the Retrofit Source and still am unsure which one I need. Will the Bi-Xenon FX-R Stage III kit work with our housings?

Yeah they should. I got the morimoto ones and have ton my headlights apart a few times. I think there is a group buy going on now. Either way, I would go threw the retrofit source to get the kit

Awesome, I am going to order the Stage III's this weekend. Really like their 5 year worry free warranty they offer from the Retrofit Source also.. Just hope that it's not like DDM's where there is a 6-8 week turnaround on something simple like a replacement ballast.

Also, would it be worth it to spend the additional $5 and upgrade to the 50 watt kit while ordering?

Yes. Wait for the group buy, the October one just ended. And the kits are significantly cheaper with the GB.

Also, read up on the FXR kit, it is pretty labor intensive as far as retros go. But they say it is the brightest. And the projectors are larger, which is better for our large housings.

Mini H1's are a popular choice, as well as the mini D2S' you can upgrade to 50w in the D2s' but not the mini H1's. And the trade off is that they are easier to install.

    Food for thought.

I would love to wait for the group buy to get together.. At this point though, I don't think I want to be driving around that long with a headlamp out. Let alone my supervisors will throw a b**** fit if they see that I am driving with a bulb out.

The Mini D2S seems like ultimately it will be the best kit to go with at this point.

As far as labor goes, from start to finish, what could I expect for time wise that it would take? I have had my headlamps in and out before. Also, would this task be able to completed with minimal tools? Very stretched on what I have here with me as far as tools and whatnot goes. (Stuck living in Army barracks).

For your best info, go to Theretrofitsource and look at exactly what you want. The D2S' are pretty straight forward.

An oven and basic tools will get you through the retro. If you want, I have a couple ballasts you could use until you get yours back, or wait for the group buy. (Depending on what you have now)

Meant to add to that...each kit on their website (got sidetracked) has a downloadable PDF on the installs.
