    I don’t know that I would call the BFG A/T over rated it has a heavier sidewall carcass than most tires in its class and performs well on and off road with the bonus of wearing well. Most people will get 40K plus out of a set with zero issues. And they are one of the better looking tires out there. IMO they fall under the “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” adage. No need to change them if they are selling well and have a good following.

    I'm tossed up between those and BFGoodrich Commercial Traction T/A, which seem to be a similar lug pattern, deeper lugs, better siping, and $30 less each.... but no warranty to speak of.

    No clue on that one. I had a set on a previous vehicle, and they were trash. They disintegrated from the inside out, and traction with them was poor.

    You said you were going for the BFG's. FYI, I got a reply from the company stating that for our trucks (mine's a 2006 double cab TRD 4x4 Sport), if you upgrade to a LT265/75/16"E" in that tire, you should run them at 40 psi front and rear for optimal wear, traction, and mileage.

    I can report that the BFs provide TERRIBLE gas milage. The Toyos were a hell of a lot better. I'm praying for lots of snow this winter so I can get my money's worth. Think I'm going to have to get off-road more this summer too just so I don't feel like I flushed my money down the toilet ...I guess that's the point.

    I don't go off road much (that's what motorcycles are for) since I have 2WD T100 but on Friday I had a set of Michelin LTX M/S2 installed. The
    $329+ Michelin LTX M/S2 Tires
    Tire Rack (make sure you see the Surveys tab) reviews and others pushed me over the edge. It was almost hard for me to drop so much $$$ on a truck that has over 300K miles on but i guess I'll keep a while longer. Maybe when I hit 400K I'll start thinking about replacing it. :)

    BTW if I did have 4WD and thought I'd spend more time off road I probably would have got the Michelin LTX A/T2 installed.

    The Michelin LTX M/S2 have gotten very good ratings and reviews...I bet you will get 100k out of them. They are on my list as replacement tires, but since my stock tires have 25k on them and look good, it might be a while.

    Update: The tire guys installed my tires at 25 psi ...WTF?!?
    No wonder they felt sloppy and my gas milage was shit. Shame on me for not checking sooner. I suspected they were low but was too lazy to check. I pumped them up to 45 psi and its made a huge difference all around.

    I might have to go back to 25 if this "Frankenstorm" hits us as hard as they fear here on the North East Coast. :rolleyes:

    it might get nasty...perhaps I should pull the M37 into the pole barn and point it out, preloaded with chain saws, peavy, mauls and logging chains...

    28,000 mile UPDATE…
    If you're planning on mounting knobby AT tires to replace your standard street threads then expect gas milage to drop - duh. :rolleyes: Took me about a month to accept that (took my wife about 3 months ;)) but that's the tradeoff. Cabin noise and steering wheel vibration was another thing I had to get used to. I played around with tire pressure and finally settled at 35 psi. The ride on pavement is significantly smoother at 35 than it is at 25, 28 or even 32psi. After 35psi I didn't notice much change, plus I was afraid I was going to unevenly wear the threads running at 40+.

    At almost 30K miles the BFs have retained their rugged good looks and have plenty of thread left. Wet traction is still very good too. I was fishtailing turns at 25K with my old Toyo tires. I don't do much offroad but the dozen or so times I ran on the beach I was impressed. Most notable moment was when I pulled a stuck 4Runner out of deep sand with my family in the truck and the bed full of all kinds of crap. I LOVE MY TACOMA and I love the BFG All-Terrain KO's.
