tried to find a video, but didn't see any...

i've only seen the FJ crash into the tree with an ARB on it...but i'd like to see the frontal crash tests reproduced with an ARB or similar bumper.

Bumpers, skids, lights and more lights, trail gear bumper, sliders, front kings, dakar lift leaf springs rear, corbeau seats
Vehicles are made with crumple zones to absorb the energy of a crash, I really would want to see a crash test with and arb.

That would be interesting to see how it changes the wreck.

Ignorant opinion here but in thinking about this the result in those videos with an ARB bumper I would think might be the same or less. My reasoning ( I am sure full of holes) is that the extra 150lb.s of hardened steel will be in forward motion with the truck. Therefore causing more outward force on whatever is hit. Assuming it is not a solid wall but another vehicle which would be softer.

But at the same time there is less absorbed by the hardened steel so the front of the frame, engine, and fenders maybe take more impact possibly pushing everything closer to the cab.

So in essence I really don't know. :D

No curtain bags for me just the fronts. So that might suck in a side impact. Time to cage it. :)

I became a Taco owner after crashing my '98 Jeep XJ with an aftermarket all steel 150 lbs front bumper. I only so slightly damaged the driver side front fender, but it "wrinkled" the subframe (no chassis, remember) around said fender. Even the driver side door opened PERFECTLY, and this was after hitting a Chevy HHR in an angle. The HHR you asked? I literally put the rear suspension, right into the passenger seat area. I was RELIEFED that NO ONE was sitting there, it would not have been pretty...

Jeep was totaled by USAA, as they called it "frame damage". The guy I sold the XJ to had it straight out for less than $400! Oh well, at least I got this beatiful taco!

I would think in a accident the bumper would be good it would just push back and cause more damage to the frame/chassis because there is no bumper (I mean "crumple zone") to take the energy from the crash?
There has to be a video out there

See that is what we need to see. Thanks for sharing. But with the unibody wrinkled how the hell would you ever get that straight? If he was building just a trail rig sure but not for a DD.

from what i understand ARB designs their bumpers to mimic the crumple zones in the vehicle. I too would be interested to see one.

On a side note, it looks like i will be heading over to the Oregon/Washington BS thread for a while.....Ill still be lurking so no talking shit while im gone.

He told me that it took two hours to get it to specs at the body shop. It got titled here in OK as a "FL rebuilt" vehicle. I never bothered to register it in CO, or LA (New Orleans) where I moved after leaving Centennial.

BTW, the bumper barely got knicked. It was so small, it was laughable!

Cool. Yeah I got my ARB for only $400 because it had gotten hit and bent on the drivers side. Took it home, beat on it for about 10 minutes, and repainted. Been a great bumper since then.
