    $1,173.00

One Thousand, One Hundred and Seventy Three Dollars. Incase you thought you read that wrong.

For what? Changing the song on my iPod touch....

Back in May I got pulled over for what the officer thought was a cell phone but I was honest with him and told him it was my iPod. He asked about my crutches that were sitting on the passenger seat and I told him the truth. I needed to pay for surgeries, and I was on my way to let a possible buyer check out my truck. He also noticed my browning air freshener and we continued to talk about guns and hunting. He then tore me off a ticket that falls under California's "hands free law"... I earned it.

I got a 4 month extension on it and submitted a full payment of $187 and change before my appear date..

Come today, A failure to appear notice, suspended licence notice, and a notice that my warrant will be issued to a collection agency if I dont take immediate action.. Along with a $900 fine

Turns out my payment was rejected because something to do with my name being spelled wrong on my ticket (it was spelled RETANA instead of RETAMA)

CALIFORNIA: IF YOU ARE SO BROKE TO THE POINT WHERE MY BANK ACCOUNT GETS RAPED FOR A SIMPLE ACTION LIKE CHANGING THE RADIO STATION, WHY DO YOU GIVE A DAMN WHO PAYS MY TICKET!!!!!!! FOR FUCK SAKE $1100!?!?!!??? FOR YOUR MISTAKE!!!!! This is the reason I cant wait to get the hell out.. Despite 50 hour work week and part time school, I simply do not make enough to pay for 10% sales tax on top of shit like this..

I forked over the $1100 tonight and took the day off work tomorrow so I can go downtown and find someone to yell at..

    Wish me luck

That sucks man... so if i read that right, the officer who issued the ticket spelled your name wrong? And you got nailed for it?

that is so fucked up. i live in socal too and i hear ya about those stupid tickets. they say there is no quota but who are they kidding...they'll bust you for anything minor and fine you an arm and a leg. but when a real crime is happening like a murder or something, not a single cop to be found. I respect the law but these cops are nothing more than a gang shaking down the working man to meet a quota for the city to pay their fat undeserving salaries and pensions.

Can't comment on the paying $1000+ up front, but I DO know in the past that any mistakes done on the LEO's part would result in the case being thrown out. i.e: incorrect DOC. # pertaining to charges, misspellings, etc:

I once recieved a ticket from CHP in Winterhaven (next to river) detained me for about 40 mins, checking for this & that & at the end of it all had forgotten to have me sign it.. result : Dismissed !!

If the officer spelled your name wrong, it was your responsibility to notify the courts. You had a copy of the ticket, you should have read it. Sorry bud, 1100$ is way to expensive, but it is partially your fault. Also, if you go to the courts and explain what happened, they will most likely side with you and refund some of your money.

I don't see how they can put out a warrant for you when the ticket is against retana. Something seems fishy

This is the truth man, you should be able to fight it 100%. If you have the proof that you sent in your 187 and change payment, it was not your fault or responsibility to make sure that the information was filled out correctly. Take it to a lawyer, go to court and it should be immediately dismissed.

Haha fuck california and the state's liberal cluster fuck called a government. Giving you a ticked for changing a song on a ipod in the first place is so stupid its upsetting. Welcome to the nanny state, where adults cant be trusted to change song on their ipod, fantastic.

i would do this. I would not sit back and get fined over a grand for that. I would fight the heck out of that, thats a big chunk of change.

I guess the question is how did you pay the ticket...in person or via mail with a check. If they cashed the check, and you can show the fine was paid, you should be able to beat this issue.

On the other hand, I have seen way too many accidents where someone was driving distracted. My life isn't worth your Itunes.

IF THEY DENIED HIS PAYMENT FOR THEIR OWN FUCKED UP MISPELLING THEN THE TICKET SHOULD BE DISMISSED FOR IT AND NO WARRANT ISSUED. THEY HAD HIS DL TO WRITE THE TICKET WITH RIGHT? THE PERSON THEY WROTE THE TICKET FOR AND THE PERSON DENIED PAYMENT ARE 2 DIFFERENT PEOPLE ACCORDING TO THAT SPELLING MISTAKE. IT IS THE LEO'S RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECTLY ENTER THE INFORMATION ON THE TICKET THAT IS INPUT INTO THE DOCKET/SYSTEM. COMPLETE BULLSHIT.............

My advice is to remain calm in court. Its okay to be upset but it is not going to serve you well to go in there and be disrespectful. No matter what you think about the law and our court system, judges/commissioners do not stand for getting yelled at....just sayin...

I had my name spelled wrong on a ticket I received in Delaware years ago. They had no problem taking my money. Hopefully you're able to get this taken care of and the money refunded. This is BS.

As far as the person blaming him? Seriously? They fucked up why should he have to go in to court to report his name being spelled wrong. It should have been obvious to those receiving his payment that all other info matches except one letter off by one in hi name and there was a typo. Not his fault they both rejected a payment and made no notification of said payment being rejected.
