I am so ready to finally get the new tires for my Taco... And the lift. I found something interesting. The front struts on a 2nd gen are about 6 inches longer than the struts on my 1st gen. The upper mount will switch over (Checked it already) and the lower mount is the same.... I am going to see how much lift I can actually get by bolting this on. The advantage I see with it is that I will get a natural ride similar to the 2nd gen, because I wont be using stiffer springs. The concern will be how far down the lower control arm will be pushed.... I'll post later on what I find.

Nope..can't do it. If you do..your CVs will bind the whole time. Thats why every 6'' lift had a Drop Bracket to lower the front diff. This actually in turn doesn't merit you any real gains in clearance and isn't worth it really.

3'' lift is MAX you can do on our trucks without binding CVs. Boots start to tear though at 2.5''+ lift so you'll have to do the boot slide mod.

luckily our year of truck for some reason tends to take 3'' of lift better then most so thats kinda a plus.

Yeah, I had heard that that might be the case. I am also a welder, and I am looking at shortening the lower section of the shaft by a couple of inches and re-welding it. It's not like I can't just buy the parts for my year. It's more like a challenge to see if it CAN be done.
I disagree with you on the 6 inch kit bracket clearance though. Even though you drop the front diff, if it allows larger tires, then depending on the actual numbers, you might gain some. Of course the expense of the 6 inch kit makes it difficult at best. When I had my old K5, and my Jeep we did a lot of home-made modifications so now it is time to bring that knowledge to my Toyota to see what I can do. I will be more than happy to hear information on what others have done on these 1st gen trucks tho.

I've been doing ok keeping up with the rest of the guys on stock street tires, but I want a bit more clearance for some of the hill climbs and rocky areas. It's time to go a little higher. lol
