    It has a tiny tiny leak on the passenger front corner near the oil dipstick. Showed signs of grease/dirt/grim on that corner of the engine. Thought I would have it checked under powertrain warranty for free. Dealer cleaned the engine and said to return in 250 miles. Put a UV dye in the block, then when they rechecked it today, it showed a tiny drop seeping through that corner. But have just been seated wrong from the factory. Oh well, free replacement for me :)

    But does anyone know the answer though? When they replace the valve cover next week on my '09 4.0, will it require them to change my oil at the same time, or can they get away without changing it? only asking cuz mine is due for a change very soon and I dont want to buy oil or do the change if they are going to do it for free by default. Any opinions/advice?

    Also, does anyone know what might cause a leak like this? Could me using synthetic cause it even though I switched on my first oil change? Could it have been anything I did to make the gasket go bad? What type of affects can this have on the engine and performance (such as mpg, compression, etc?) Should I be worried about engine damage if it has been leaky since day 1 (over 3 years now?) Thanks for the input in advance :)

    There is a tsb for that seal. Mine is leaking. I need to change mine. Ive seen quite a few guys that have replaced it.

    You don't need to change your oil to change your valve cover gasket. I've changed them on other cars and trucks before, and it seems like the went bad just due to time and engine heat. They'll start to get brittle and break down. From the sound of yours, your don't have anything to worry about.
