    so i can have yes?

Sounds like a nice cruise. When I first moved back here I thought about getting a bike and riding into work during the summer. Then I saw how crazy traffic can be and I changed my mind. We have lots of trails in the hills though that would be safer.

Gotcha. And you live outside of town a ways too right? So you'll be one of the last areas that gets power restored? Better pick up a generator soon before everyone else gets the best ones.

    Stay safe Burgy!

    why do you need power?

fill up bathtub with potable water
fill up coolers with ice and food

    get ready to camp.

I shut my house down totally this morning. No power, no gas, no water.

Paging Chad, or anyone one else with electrical exp... Is there a way for me to buy a portable generator and hook it up to my fuse box so i can turn on the necessity fuses. Or will i have to run extension cords through the house?

    .
I don't think there is any way to plug in a generator to the panel unless you have an electrician hard wire an outlet into the incoming side of the panel, you would still need to be able to isolate the incoming wires from the street, costly and not worth the effort IMO. My thought is to turn off the panel, pull whatever fuses/breakers you don't need, plug the generator into the circuit with the highest amp rating (washer/stove) and run the power back into the panel and out to the circuits you want to use, honestly I don't know if that's safe though.

the cheap and easy way (which I will not disclose) is also potentially very dangerous. to do it properly you will need a transfer switch to prevent back feeding into the grid. a project such as this should not be attempted by an unqualified person.

it's not. that leaves too much room for very costly and potentially deadly mistakes.

That's what i figured, didn't think it would be safe to run that much juice back through a branch circuit, thanks for the correction

This can also be done with breaker interlock kit and 240v/30a breaker depending on what service panel you have.

Our codes require the use of a transfer switch for back up generators.
