Hey guys, long time no see. So... I am no longer a Toyota owner :( BUT I was able to find a perfect example of my dream truck. 2003 F-250 Lariat with the 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel (Final year of the 7.3, they switched to the 6.0 half way through the model year)

    SuperDuty_f6d1201c7597c5372c17892b04df9d639137593e.jpg

So, I'm pretty sure among all of us there is a good amount of diesel knowledge. Here's what's going on:

The truck has a transmission temperature gauge as part of the stock gauge cluster. What happens is, the transmission gauge reaches the middle of the gauge very quickly, BUT the water temp gauge hardly ever reaches temperature.

Does it make sense that the trans would reach operating temperature while the truck is sitting still?

The truck has 140,000 miles on it, so I wouldn't be shocked if the thermostat has gone bad. But does anyone think it's plausible that in the 10+ years this truck has been in existence, perhaps the leads for the water and trans temp gauges got swapped?

Your thoughts would be appreciated. I'd much rather diagnose this and just accept it rather than go diving into the cooling system to replace the thermostat.

That's normal on the Fords. My dad's F350 did the same thing. Its more of a dummy gauge than anything.

The trans shoots up right away and the water temp takes a little while. What's funny is the trans temp will start climbing with the truck idling but the transmission generates no heat unless it's moving.

Does anyone up here in the PNW have the BHLM?? I am trying to see if it is worth it due to all of the rain that I get in WA. I really don't want any moisture to get in there.

    Thanks in advance,
    -James

I did it. No problems ever, just run a bead of clear silicon around the outside when your done. I did just in case and never once had an issue.

Just did mine, my 3rd set. Only issue I has is my rubber boot fitting around m new retro bulbs and allowing moisture in. Dont use 3m window weld!
