Going with flowmaster cuz i really like the rumble it gives. Thinking about single in dual out but with a before axle turndown. Any objections? info? or another muffler maybe for this setup?

I have single in dual out turndown 40 series. Sounds great. No highway drone, no rumble st idle, but once I smack the gas it's game on.

YouTube has tons. When I was originally muffler shopping I wanted the 44... And I still kind of do... But I think any more noise then I already have is just a cry for attention and will piss off the neighbors in the early mornings.

had muh fm40 with a turn down at the can...
didn't like the obnoxious drone (especially on the hwy)

so... extended the tail pipe back over the axle
exiting near the rear spring hanger...
is sounds better and has the best torque feel.

I currently have oem 2.25" dia pipe both inlet/exhaust of the 40.

but I also had 2.25" dia in and 2.5" out before
and I didn't like how it scavenged...
seemed to lightly backfire when throttling down

    a rumble/drone outside the cab... is less fatiguing ;) $ .02

You also have a first gen and the OP has a second gen.

On my first gen my flow master 40 droned... But on my second gen it seems to be perfect for my tastes without much of a drone.

neither, any model of flowmaster will hurt performance and fall apart in the winter. Go magnaflow, aero turbine, borla etc etc

they are a "baffled" decision that impedes flow and thus performance. Sound is subjective, so if you like how they sound, then by all means go for it.

If you want sound and to not hurt performance (a simple muffler swap wont change much anyways) go with a straight through design like that of magnaflow, borla, dynomax, aero turbine

I went to the local shop here looking for a 40 and he sold me on a 44. Thing was super loud and rattled the change inside the truck. He put on a resonator and it toned it down quite a bit. I really don't like the sound though at all. I'll probably be taking it off in the future when I decide if I want to go with a stock exhaust or go with the TRD. I really don't want the drone anymore.

Yes, my two favorites have ways been Magnaflow and aero turbine. The aero sounds the best with all your cats on IMO
