Not saying OP is right or wrong, but his truck IS very mild compared to a lot of monster trucks crusing the streets around here. Especially on the outer islands and country side of oahu. I saw an old ford that had to be rockin 44's a few weeks ago on the north shore.
and yeah, this thread got pretty ugly...

    Brand new. Coming soon.
Do let us know how your day in court goes. Remember, if it is your word against the officer's word you lose. So. You MUST have evidence. If your tires are legal, and don't protrude beyond the wheel wells, then pictures are your best friend. The easiest way to see if the tires protrude or not is to place a straight-edge vertically, touching the top and bottom of the tire, centered on the axle. A broom or shovel would work. If it clears the body, the tires protrude, if the straight-edge is touching the body or preventing you from touching the top and bottom of the tire...you are safe...take a picture.

I was ticketed for rolling through a stop sign once. I asked the officer.."What stop sign?" He pointed to a sign behind a tree and covered with foliage. I thanked him, and apologized. After he left I returned to that corner and took a lot of photos, and a video from inside the car approaching the intersection, and asked the judge to show me where the stop sign was in the video or photos. He couldn't find it and dismissed my ticket. The next time I went through that town the tree was cut down and all the bushes had been cleared away.

Remember in court, no arguments, no opinions, just EVIDENCE.

Yep, they are afraid. Recently we had over 30 tacomas stolen by the same guys who also had the bunch of hondas and they were taking it across island. They were also ripping houses. Once residents started arming themselves, 20+ extra cops were called in to stop it. Cops cars have been jacked, there family cmembers beaten outside of their houses and so on. I am no ways saying i'd go to any extreme besides wasting there time and taxpayers time in court, but there is guys i've grown up with who are crazy. Ive been in fights with drunk cops and even raced em on the street. Cops down here arent the same as you boys up there. They know to play it safe and who to leave alone.
Most stolen cars are recovered by the owners and even cops acknowledged they dont put an effort into finding stolen Hondas or mopeds. Burglaries are common and people fear being robbed by some ice head. Its crazy just trying to have a normal life. There's so much incidents I could write a book. The best bet like I said is fight it and have it dismissed by prejudice. Basically stating your truck is within law.

Btw, the technicality thing works down here...if the cop messed up on info on the ticket then they are at fault and the paperwork is now trash. Same thing if you dont fill in the bubble correctly when you vote, it wont count. Same thing on most government paperwork, taxes, and what not..you dont fill it out correctly it wont count. Waiting inside the court house to be called up you hear some pretty bizarre cases. Judges are known to be dirty too...taking bribes for land cases and such.

And down here we have Uncles, family members, family friends and such....a lot of people down here are connected some way or another. Cops work together with residents..when they dont then some locals keep em in check.
Im not one of those locals though.

Wasnt it awhile back your truck almost got stolen? That was different guys then these. Its the guys who had 8 up at their family land, another 5 up on a ranch and who knows how many they had stripped. Cops caught em stripping a truck and they were growing weed in that same area. lol. They went to jail, released early and one accidently got released at the hilo jail. the cops forgot he was supposed to be transferred and not released. classic...

Hah, when he escaped he cruised around Hilo, checked out couple friends and hitch hiked back to Kona. I didnt hear of him stealing tacos after that, but then again he wasnt all high from what I heard.

How's these cops cruising with a driver brake light out?

"oh hey...these two trucks arent yours, are they?" Yeah, those were stolen off the dodge dealership and they had things they had jacked from houses in Waikoloa and cars down at Mahaiulas.

I dont have pics of the truck before it got stolen..but this truck was recovered with a driver fender and door from another stolen taco.

Yeah, they're fkd up guys. Only in Hawaii you can be young, drive a tacoma that paid off, registered and insured...then get blamed for it being stolen. That happened to me in Puna before.

I remember when Hawaii was such a nice place to live and have fun.

I used to live in Ewa Beach many years ago... Early 1970's.

Looks like it has gone to shit.

That clearly shows your tires sticking out past the fenders. Are front mud flaps required in HI?

I don't know how it works in HI, but in WA, when we get a ticket, there will be a statute code so we can find out exactly what the law is for that violation.

Here in AK our mudflaps are supposed to extend down to tha axle centerline or below which makes sense as it keeps rocks from being thrown too high.
