Coil spacer vs. Bilstein 5100

I thought Pre-Runners got more lift than a 4X4??

 

but for the same price 5100s are better...better ride, better quality, easier on the truck

I offroad and my upper ball joints were destroyed by a spacer lift. too much down travel for stock UCAs.

 

Spacers seem to work fine for me..ride is ok too...I don't jump the truck or hard rock climb...but I do a LOT of off roading...I guess cow trailing as we call it!

 

I ditched my revtek spacer lift and got 5100 all the way around.

 

I have the same setup as you and really like the stance BUT HATE THE RIDE! I thought about those 2 options but am now saving up for some Maxtrac 4" spindles,,,, I really dont think its going to look bad with an extra inch up front and you cant go wrong going back to factory ride!

 

Just put Bilstein 5100's on my 2012 today, replacing the already good Bilsteins it came with. Lifted the front 1.85 and the truck looks great. Best of all, the ride quality was not compromised- in fact, I think it improved! Has the same plush feel, resists bottoming and has excellent rebound control. As a newbie to the forum I am very glad I was steered away from the spacer kit I was originally planning to use. No regrets with the 5100's!

5100 just feel better, I would ditch the spacer

 

Real new and this being my first tacoma

I plan on getting the bilstein 5100s with the OME coils

Looked at toytec and both 5100s where the same but one set say its for a 3-4" lift and the other goes 2.5". Did they type it wrong or Both shocks are the same?

Seen couple 2012 with this lift and it leveled out good.

 

is it bad if you have both spacers and 5100's? i suppose they both do the same thing so one isnt needed correct?

Spacers are fine if you just want to level your truck, but in all reality the end result is the same just the ride will be better with 5100's and new springs. Also have to remember that 3 inches of lift with shocks and springs is also 3 inches of droop lost in suspension and could bottom shock out.

All about the application...with that said, i still wouldnt get a spacer larger than 1" (to provide 2" of lift), ever, even on a mall crawler... Of course, I'm talking about top plate spacers, if you're going through the trouble of using a spring compressor to install a coil spacer, just go the next step and buy 5100's, IMO.

 

How much do 5100's cost?

 

About 300 for all 4. Get them from downsouth motor sports. They give a nice TW discount.
