STOP, you are not correct. How do you explain a small spacer, "chopping up" the tires? and the only way the spacer could do any damage, is if the coils were topping out time and time again, but with such a small spacer, it's going to take either a really bad driver, or someone using the truck really hard to do any real damage.

I had a spacer lift on my truck for about 15 miles. It changed the ride of my truck so bad (making it feel like I was riding in a 1984 Ford), I drove it for 1 day, then took it back to the tire shop that installed them and had them removed. The guy at the tire shop who sold them to me said it wouldn't change my ride either... Not so.

I wish I had known about Bilstein 5100's before I tried out the spacer....

you had an in coil spacer, and yea, that changes the ride, as it preloads the coil. OP has an above coil spacer, the same thing I have on my 2012, and it feels the same as the day I bought the truck.

holy F, you guys win, 5100s suck and are not worth anything more than a spacer lift. spacers are great, and contribute to a perfect alignment, and perfect ride. even though 5100s were made, they are basically an expensive, POS alternative to a spacer lift, which is superior to jesus christ himself, and should be treated as such.

I had the same or similar front lift as this guy, from stock to this the ride felt neither harder or softer but being higher did make the ride feel different.

Chill out clowns. Stay on topic.

FWIW 90% of 3'' lifts are preloading coils, even my expensive foxes.

Case closed. Ops question has been answered.

Spacer preloads the entire strut assembly.
    5100 preloads the coil.

    There is an important difference.

Preloading the entire assembly can allow for the shock to bottom out before the LCA hits the jounce snubber. This can lead to the bottom leg of the strut bending/breaking.

Preloading the coil CAN cause the same problem... but only if the coil is preloaded to the point that it binds before the LCA hits the snubber.

Of course, a taller snubber avoids the problem entirely.

It's settled. I'm ditching my 5100's for spacers.

For my first post I started a nice flame war.

In the end I would you think there is plenty of pre load to cover the lost shock travel of a half inch puck. After all it is made of rubber. I will report back in a year when everything is still fine and settle this.
