I'm gonna wire up a light bar in the bed of my truck this afternoon. How should I run The wiring? Can I tap into my cigarette lighter for power? Then run to a switch. I'm not good with electrical at all

 

thats a bad idea. you could screw up your cig lighter and you will also not have a very bright light bar. run the power directly from the battery with an inline fuse and dont tap into any other power sources. this will give you the brightest lights

EDIT: and depending on if your running a lot of wattage on the light bar, i would also put in a relay

 

I've talked to several people that say I can use the power from my cig light. I don't need it. I don't smoke. If I ran it straight to the battery I could turn the lights on without havin the truck on right?

 

yes. and what size light bar are you gonna put on? do you know how much power it uses?

Sorry fellas its not actual light bar. Just a bar with two junky autozone lights. I plan on gettin better lights in the future

What kind of lights? The amps they pull will change how you can wire it. If they were LED's you may be able to get away with wiring straight to a switch. If they are halogen I would wire it correctly through a relay. Or you could burn your truck down, its up to you

 

They aren't LEDs so I assume halogen

 

Is 10 amps too much to run off of my cig lighter power? Or should I just run straight to the batter use a relay then go To a switch?

 

I meant cig lighter fuse but I don't remember what type lights are on it
