It's zero interest, actually. $100k was just the insurance deductible, the rest was written off. At the time, it was $680k in product but with gold's current price it would have been over $4.5M in today's currency. I think I got a good deal.

Drunk driving at 28 years old, did about $6k damage to my 97 Olds Achieva.

Between attorney, insurance surcharge (major accident plus the OUI), drunk classes, fines, getting my license back, and having to spend $15 a day on the train to still get to work for 6 months..$15000 plus.

Anyone want to ask why I don't drink anymore? :)

Because of the $$ it cost, although that's the least of it..not having my freedom for 6 months killed me, plus having to look at my car all bashed in. That and I just didn't feel like risking my life and the lives of others.

Steal $680k in gold/platinum 14 years ago (gold was barely $300/oz at that time)
    Get indicted
Get charged 2 months before statute of limitations is up
Case was very weak but didn't want to risk jail
Cut deal to stay out of jail
Pay restitution of $100k at a rate of $200 per month
Benefits of having spotless record and coming clean

$250 for 68mph in a 45, in a construction zone. This was in Oklahoma, where state law says if no workers are present (and there weren't) it's not legally a construction zone. Cop got me *just* inside city limits, where there is an extra fee for being in a construction zone regardless if workers are present.

Beyond that, $65 for 77 in a 65 in NM. I had a devil-may-care moment when the cop asked why I was going so fast. He must have gotten a chuckle from my story, because there's an additional $10 fee for being more than 10 over but he wrote the ticket for being 9 over to avoid the fee. That was cool.

$110 for "assured clearance distance ahead" just a couple weeks ago. Got in a little fender bender turning left out of a parking lot, looked right again to double check that I was still clear and in the meantime a car stopped in front of me to make a turn. Oops. Just got my Tacoma out of the shop, actually.

And a couple written warnings, one verbal warning. All for speed. Got my car searched once, my buddy I was with ran into an old high school buddy at the bar and he was thoroughly pickled so he asked if I could drive him to where he was staying. That happened to be a meth house (I had no idea, I didn't live in that town), and the cops saw me drive out of there, pulled me over and proceeded to be complete pricks. You know what I learned that night? Let the bastard drive home drunk, it's not my problem.
