I must say that I'm new to this whole tire thing and rubbing issue. I need help understanding the difference between a 265/70/17 and a 285/65/17. The current tire on my truck is a 265/65/17. Someone mentioned that because I'm putting a 2.5" lift on the truck that I should go with the 285/65/17 but if I wanted a bigger tire and to avoid rubbing go with the 265/70/17. Is this correct?

    285 is 20mm wider than the 265 no ?

OP , stick with the 265 if you don't want to deal with any rubbing issues

You could also go 275/70/17 ( I run this size , no rub ) or 255/80/17

    Usually people running 285's with a 2 1/2" - 3" lift would go 285/70/17 , not 285/65/17

    What manufacture is that tire?
Also the tire shop here in town said that it would be stupid to go with a 285/70/17 and that I should stick with a 285/65/17 or the 265/70/17. He is starting to really annoy me. I feel like he just wants a sale and is not trying to help me out.
